Hi all, Was just sat here thinking to myself, as I constantly doubt and scrutinise any decision I make in life.. How/when did you guys and gals decide you are "cut out" for police work? Did you ever have self doubt? Also when do you feel you actually felt that it was what you wanted to do? Hope i've posted in the correct section! And a happy Monday to all Alex.

hi i am a newbee and i wanted to offer my thoughts on the silly moped law of restricting them to 30mph and also a great power loss which quite frankly is dangerous as i am older i used to ride the sports peds in the 70s and they could do just abut 50-60,which at least you could keep up with traffic. Even motorcycle news comments on a test of a restricted geared bike and says they would not want to ride this bike with restricted power and because these new bikes are a lot safer now then the 70s bikes with disc brakes and more they were designed to go a bit faster then now. The problems lie with who is riding the bikes not the speed as i still ride 50cc two strokes and th…

Just more out of curiosity - BBC News just referred to Police Paramedics, presumably he was meaning Police First Responders or does the Met actually have Paramedic trained cops? Obviously through paramedics changing career it could be possible, not sure on liabilities of that though?

Hello everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone else is starting their training on 16th Jan at Hendon and then doing consecutive Sundays at Croydon/Victoria/Bethnal Green? Hoping it'll ease my nerves if I have people to look out for!! Caroline :D

Thought I would join up to the forum as I have my PIR Test this Saturday for Suffolk, obviously a little bit nervous. I have been trying to get in to the police for a while now, managed to get through the paper application for the regulars in Essex last year but due to government cuts etc that was cancelled. Some good advice on here, and seems a highly informative site. So...a question... What is the best part of being a special and why? (just interested in peoples opinions) Thanks all and fingers crossed ey! Matt

The Police Negotiating Board has published pay scales for Federated Ranks (Constable up to Chief Inspector) for 2010/2011. This is the last year of a three year pay deal struck in 2008, so who knows what will happen to police pay for 2011/12 (I suspect it will go down in real terms).

Anyway here's a summary of the Constables' and Sergeants' pay, and I have attached their full document, with full acknowledgement and thanks for their copyright. If you prefer you can download it direct from their site here.

CONSTABLES’ PAY
<table class=MsoTable…

I've been asked an interesting question about cover for Specials should they be injured on duty. I'm aware of the Home Office legal expenses cover which has been in place since 2000 (although I struggled to find any details online, anyone able to post a link to the latest information?), but am not sure what would be the situation if - god forbid - a Special was so badly injured on duty that their quality of life was seriously affected and they were unable to perform their full time job. Anybody able to shed any light on this for me? This could be a very useful pinned post if we get the information together because I'm sure it's a concern for many...

Have utility belts gone out of fashion as you seem to see more 'coppers' wearing the vest style utility storage?

If so I would be very interested to hear from you via PM. I am looking to collect some information about the role and how each force works in relation to RPU and Specials. So, if thats you, and you would like to have get involved please drop me a line so I can send you over some info on what I hope to achieve and if you feel you can get involved then great, or perhaps you might pass my details onto your supervision. Thanks in advance!

I decided to do a silly thing and perform a background check on my girlfriend (who has a previous conviction). At the time I didnt think, but I'm now alittle worried that this may have been audited, and I could get yanked into the Sgt's office! Are these checks automatically audited/backed up? :-/

simple topic. how do you deal with people who are not english, speak poor or broken english or speak none at all. I'm aware of language line, but would assume not everyone uses it. so how would you deal with them to gather basic details such as name, DOB or asking them what they are up to?

Hello everybody this is my first post. Been browsing these pages for a number of months now and decided to join today. I have been considering joining the police for over 8 years. Around 6-7 years ago I passed everything and was given a start date with GMP, while waiting for my start date to arrive I received a letter informing me that the Home Office had changed the way they recruit new officers and as such I would have to reapply starting from scratch! This is when they introduced the as then new assessment centre that was based round a made up shopping centre. As you can guess this was a sad day seen as though to pass everything and get my start date I had been in th…
