Out of interests what do people think is right in regards to people photographing in public and photographing the police? And what powers you have over this?

Just wondering about the ACPO policies on road blocks. I vaguely recall being told that a driver that's failing to stop for police isn't allowed to be road blocked. Bit of a shame if it's true, been driving during a few situations recently where I was left wondering and played it safe just in case. One case in particular was on a single carriageway bridge were there was the option to block it very easily with two heavy police vehicles. The suspect car was being persued by two cars so it would've been dead easy. It wasn't done however, maybe for the best, we could have ended up with someone drowning....

Hi All, Found out last week that I am going to be made redundant......whoopie doo . Anyway, I'm training to be a Special and was wondering if I am now SC cleared as part of the vetting checks? If so does that mean I can apply to jobs that require SC clearance? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

So my interview is tomorrow and I have just tried my suit on, (looking very swarve I must say!) Iv been going through all my notes that I taken over the last few weeks and getting ready to use them all in my interview and hopefully I will be serving the streets of London very soon! I would just like to say on behalf of myself (and I am sure many others) thank you to all the members of this forum for being so helpful, not just questions I have had, but looking through nearly every topic and reading responses I have a greater understanding of the life of a special, and it has help me so much with preperation for everything that is to come! Whether I get accepted first t…

I've seen a couple of times around the forum people talking about waiting for shifts to become available, I would just like a bit of information of how it actually works? Do you have to give notice weeks in advance of what shifts you will be on duty for? Thanks, Chris

I applied to TVP Regs in April 2009. Passed everything, but have been on hold, due to funding. Had an email yesterday, and it's a matter of when, not if, I start my training. I'm not worried about when that is - it's just so reassuring that that's the case. Maybe I will be a PC before I'm 30 after all

I recently followed a case into the court of appeal from the crown court where the accused was originally convicted of a theft charge, after considerable discussion the CPS counsel at the Court of Appeal sitting at the RCJ agreed to the defence appeal and the accused was formally cleared of the offence and immediately released back to the streets from court. I spoke with the CPS staff and was told that it was not unusual for a case to heard on an appeal and the accused to be cleared in one form or another or for sentence to be reduced. This kind of got be around to thinking, do the police often end up convicting the wrong person ? We are all aware of the famous appeal …

Hi, I took part in Merseyside Police Force's insight scheme last week and went out with a local neighbourhood team and really enjoyed it, learnt lots. Ok I have a few questions: I am a Labour Party Candidate in the local elections, does this stop me from being a special? If I am elected will it? How common is it for a 18 year old to join? How common is it for a SC to drive? Do SC have flexibility in what specialities they want to work in, say if I wanted to work in the local neighbourhood teams or traffic stops? I have a full time career in the NHS, I hope to stay in the NHS but would like to progress through Specials ranks like Sergeant/Inspector, how common is th…

Why is it you see some police out with high vis vests on, some are dressed all in black, some with white shirts and a black vest, some with a polo shirt etc... Who dictates what uniform is worn, generally speaking for the whole police force, and which of the uniforms are issued to special constables?

Hi Everyone... Basically this seems a touch of a bit complicated situation... but hey ho and I dont know if this is the right place for it... Okay SO I am a youthworker for a charity- I work in schools, nationally ... basically different schools in different parts of the country in different weeks. Now im fully CRB checked... Now the CRB is only for me and my immediate employer to see. Now schools (either in extreme paranoia or increased security) are asking to see that... TBH dont have massive issues with that.. But Lots of schools now days are asking for past address history(last 5 years) for the local lea list 99 check. plus copies of photo id and CRB for their…
