General Policing Discussions

In terms of arresting someone you have to give PACE grounds and a SOCPA reason. Are the PACE grounds those of the 'past', 'present', 'future' and 'double suspicion'? (eg. "I have reasonable grounds that [this] offence is being committed") And SOCPA is the 10 reasons "COP-PLANNED" (acronym)? (eg."to ensure the prompt and effective investigation of the offence")Or have I got it wrong? Thanks.

Hi all, regarding pocket notebooks, I know they say you have to write everything down that happens in a days duty etc but obviously they may be some cases where I cant straight away and have to do it when able. BUT.... is it at all possible to write down something that happened say earlier in the day, and still remember everything... Or is this just me being forgetful? I dont want to miss anything out or miss any crucial detail, am I write in thinking that these notebooks are basically a police diary, or could I treat it as one? any answers/experiences would be great. Thanks

Hello! Please only sensible ideas - I do not want this ending up in the locker room! If you were given a budget. Lets for this purpose say it's around £20,000. It must be spent on the Special Constabulary and or for the use by its officers however, there are no rules apart from that. What would you spend it on? Any equipment and training ideas would be welcomed!

I'd like your opinion on this please, I recently started a new hobby, the mid life crisis two wheel scooter buzz. I used to be involved with scooter clubs years ago and there were no problems, howvever I wasnt in the police then. It seems that a few riders, since finding out, have a big problem with the police and persist in disrespecting me and the service whenever I attened a function. I'm 16 and in my last year of school. I am due finish my GCSE's by the end of June. I have always wanted to join the police since being about three- nothing else has ever interested me!! As I leave in June, I have had the option to apply for the sixth form college at my school to do A levels. The courses I have chosen are sociology, business, German and Law. Well, what a surprising place this is!! A few months I posted something about some of my recollections from the 1980's when I worked for the Met in a civillian role. I dont know if anyone watched it but there's a new series on ITV at 23:20 on a thursday called "send in the dogs" following the dog units around the country. last night was the first one, the description for next thursday is "Series following the work of police dogs. Anyone watch it? I've just watched it on BBC iPlayer and found it pretty interesting. I believe it's a three part series, the first (linked) was on cannabis, the second part is on this Thursday 13th which is about the effects of ecstasy and then there is a third part after that - but I can't seem to find out what that one's about...

hi as a new poster why was the attitude bad about moped law and locked it could be an interesting post to start with an unjust law or is that why the post was locked because you did not agree? i respect the police but not if this is there attitude or i may be wrong and it may be a post for a motorcycle forum topic i do know that it may get a bit out of hand if people post things that are nothing to do with policing as an acting police officer it would be difficult to agree with something that is against the law as it stands now .

hi i still see a number of people driving with one hand and a mobile phone in the other,turning round corners and rounderbouts and what happens they dont see that motorcycle and could ruin someones life, i got knocked off my moped by someone who was talking on a phone and i was lucky i had a few cuts but he said he did not see me and said sorry,and you problably knew what i said but it is dangerouse driving to use one just as is drink driving. They really needs to be a stiffer sentence for these people.

I read this evening on the Independent Newspaper web site tonight, I am absolutely shocked by someone carrying out such mean and nasty offence, sentences for animal cruelty offences need to reflect the horror of some of the crimes committed against animals. Very sad and horrid thing to do, never mind the shock to the person who found the scene. I hope that the Police and RSPCA find who ever did this and they feel the full weight of the LAW. Perhaps it is time that RSPCA officers were given the full protection of the powers of constable. Hi All, Security pending I'll be starting Specials training for CoLP in March. On the interview and fitness days I noticed a lot of the guys and gals there were becoming Specials as a stepping stone to joining full time; off the top of my head only me and one other out of approx. 12 wanted to just serve as Specials with no plans to becoming full time. When I said this to a few of the guys I got funny looks ("Why the hell would you want to be a Special if you didn't have plans to go full time?"). I think I've read on here before that some Specials without ambitions of becoming full time were being overlooked a lot for training etc as it was deemed a waste when you've got…
