General Policing Discussions

a little help. i was wondering about the placement system. my understanding is you can be placed where you request? if this is the case i wanted to be based close to where i live, however; there is speculation in the local paper of my local station closing. my opinion is its a load of rubbish. they have recently closed the magistrate court attached to the side of it. since then the rumour has been in place. the only issue is that i cant understand how they can close the station as it is far away from any other station and with it being an important port town i thought that closure would be a big risk. anyone else's opinions?

Hi folks, just having gone through the 2 part assessment, one thing that struck me. On the first day, there were 8 of us and whilst waiting in reception for the late person, we struck up conversation and it really felt like we were a team, even though 10 minutes before we didn't know each other from Adam. On the 2nd day I bumped into a couple of the guys from day 1, and not only did they remember my name.. I remembered theirs. How often can you say that after meeting 7 people for the first time ? Maybe it was that we were all in it together, but I really hope it's like that if I get in.

I wondered today if one physically can not get into work, due to the adverse weather, what would happen. I live in MetPol area & am aquainted with full-time officers who live in Herts', Bedford, Kent, etc. Would it be possible for say, a Met officer, to work from a Kent station as he/she is close by and is easier to get to? Hope this makes sense....Thanks

For some offences we summons to court and i've done a couple of no insurance/driving without due care and attention. Likewise, we arrest for certain offences and I have done a fair few of these too! Question therefore is: what offences can I summons for? I know the basic traffic stuff and I know most offences are arrestable if the necessity is met but for some things like some fly tipping could you just report to court as a alternative means of disposal? Or are all offences summonsable but obviously you don't want to do it for all offences... Or if anyone could point to somewhere on PNLD or PVH that would be great!

Hey all, It's my first shift tonight and I'm starting to get the 'first night nerves' I realise that no matter how good the training is there is always a leap between the training environment and the operational environment so my question is this Other than "make sure you make a good brew" or "bring the haribo" is there any advice you can give to "the newbie" for their first shift (and beyond)

Hi all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you! Something I've been thinking about recently are police cycle teams. I know that police forces in cities such as City of London Police have dedicated cycle squads, and obviously officers from all places often use bicycles by which to patrol. As a keen cyclist myself, and as I've applied to the Specials, the possibility of being involved in this would be very appealing to me if possible. Evening peeps, I am currently finishing off my application for Gloucestershire Police and was wondering, How much law and legislation did you guys know before signing up? Did you learn alot on the job or did you have a reasonable knowledge already? I know you will learn alot on duty but are you expected to know the basics before your training begins?
