Just a quick post really - has anybody else had the fortune to be able to Visit another force area on duty and even better see how differently things are done? As I write this I am sitting in custody at a police station in Northampton somewhere helping a regular collegue with one of his jobs. I'm really quite surprised how completely different the systems and procedures are for custody and would recommend if anyone gets the chance to go to another force area for any reason jump at it with both feet!

Does Cheshire or any other North West force still offer these? I know Merseyside still have it up on their site but somebody mentioned they are stopping doing them. I think with other forces they stopped them a while ago due to health and safety.

Bit of background first of all i've worked for a high street public house chain as a Duty Manager for almost 8 years. My latest public house Leicester City Centre. The incident was as follows I had just came on shift and had immediately heard alot of noise on upstairs shouting swearing etc on the upstairs bar. Hi all, apologies if this has been discussed before but I couldnt find it anywhere else. I remember hearing when I started as an SC that your powers only apply in the county you police in as well as the neighbouring counties, but recently I heard that this power can now be used in any county in England. (Im not sure about Scotland and Wales.) Hopefully someone will be able to clarify this for me! Thanks.

Just came across this android app I've downloaded onto my phone; http://www.dailyroads.com/voyager.php Basically it records everything it sees through the windscreen on a continuous loop, if the phone's accelerometer detects a force of 3G or more, or you tap the screen, it will save the last 1 - 10 minutes (whatever you set it up for) into a safe file on your SD card. Just before Christmas I attended court and at the end of the case the accused was convicted by the jury and remanded for reports by the Judge, upon the case coming back for sentencing the accused went down for 5 years, which at the time seemed like a fair to good result. But to my surprise the prosecution said that the offender would in all likelihood serve less that half there sentence in custody. I started doing some research into what a sentence really means in the UK, 12 months to 4 years - typically prisoners are released after serving just half the sentence, So why not just make the sentence 2 years ? instead of the Judge saying 4 years which dishonest to the …

I was looking at ebay tonight and am very surprised to find for sale a huge amount of police uniform items and equipment for sale. This is despite ebay having a policy to prohibit police badges and equipment from being sold. Given the recent Kent securitas robbery where 53 million was taken and the manager was stopped allegedly on his way home by 2 men impersonating police in an unmarked car with blue lights, it concerns me that ebay continues to allow the listing and selling of police uniforms and badges to any one, I know that some of the people using ebay are collectors, but it is a worry about reflective jackets and current hats and badges. These day's the media often refer to cases or investigations with an Operation Name, for example the recent murder of Joanna Yeates in Bristol, the media have taken to appealing for members of the public to call the Operation BRAID incident room. Who decides the names of Operations ? and where do some of the names come from ? is there a big book of approved operational names that are allowed or is each operation given a name by a more random means such as a meeting or vote in the incident room or some where else at HQ. I was just filling in a form that requires my UK Drivers Licence details, when Ilook at the licence it has an issue date of 18-05-01 and an expiry date of 17-05-11 however on the back of the licence and on the counterpart document it gives the expiry date of 15-10-27 (when I'm 70) what gives? Hey Forum Peeps Any advice or tips on this would be great! Ok so we all know that you should warm up and stretch before doing any physical exercise. However in our role we are often stood for hours in the freezing cold with our joints all seizing up then suddenly without warning have to leg it. Does anyone have any tips on avoiding getting niggly injuries? Yes this all stems from me being a bit sore tonight because my knee is aching and I stink of deep heat!
