After always wanting to join the police from when I was growing up I got some good news yesterday saying I would be starting in January. I applied to be a special on my 18th birthday and It took me until I was 19 and to October 2012 until I got on a training course. My force opened up internal recruitment and I have just been told I am going to be starting in the new year. Has anyone got any tips on what I should expect ? Thanks all!

Stumbled upon this video last night - yet more interference from camera wielding MOPs. This lone Special appears completely overwhelmed by both the number of people and the questioning of his authority to do what he initially planned. Whilst I have sympathy for the officer, it is all a bit of a farce in the end with him cycling off to sarcastic cheers from onlookers. Curious as to why he didn't use his radio at all and why he didn't attempt to move the guy with the camera from his immediate vicinity - his refusal to do so meaning he was obstructing surely? Thoughts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbgJK7EDF6k&feature=c4-overview&list=UUgOKQWPds99zz2CPEvKZpRg

Hi, I have recently been offered an interview for Medicine and as part of the application process I must undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure. The form requires me to state all cautions and warnings I have received in my 21 years of living. As a juvenile I have received a "pink slip" after being found in possession of alcohol underage . When I was 18 I received a warning for possession of cannabis. Since then I have worked as a hospital porter which required an enhanced CRB, to my surprise neither offence was mentioned on my copy of the CRB. Is this because the local chief constable did not deem the offences relevant for the position I was applying for? And will the resul…

Hi all, I have some questions about officer badge numbers / identification that I wonder if someone can help me out with. Basically, I wanted to know how the whole system works. I assume that each member of the police force would have their own unique number, but today I am pretty sure I walked past 2 police officers with four digit codes on their shoulders. If all police employees had a four digit code then that would mean there can only be 9999 issued. Can someone explain to me if a employee has their own unique number displayed on their uniform, or can they be repeated (i.e 2 officers with the same number). Also, if a police employee retires then does their number …

My trainer told me 'keep your eyes and ears open, and your gobs shut' for at least 6 months. Also told me if some1 get a bad rep, it spreads quite quickly and soon no one will watch their back. So it's best to keep the head down until you get a good rep. Experienced officers, I am keen to learn. Please contribute so us newbs can avoid trouble!

Hopefully I will be getting an offer and training soon. Just wondered, what do I need to memorise that is the bread and butter of borough policing in a city? I know domestics, theft/burglary, RTC, public order, NDM, SNT are the bread and butter for an everyday copper. Anything else I need to add on that list?

Just a thread for experienced officers as well as the students, what laws do you think that needs to be introduced and why? A good format to follow (and I will start the covo off) would be like as follows S111 Police and Crime Act -Constable and PCSO has the power to ask for name and details of a person for a PNC check to mitigate risk. why-I think this would be a good act to help officers to mitigate risk and help protect the public. After all, I find it a bit of a joke that officers can't get the name off someone before even a simple S1 PACE search... I understand the right to privacy and all that, but it's a huge risk if officers need to simply ask a name to check f…

Maybe i seem a busy-body but when I'm out on foot patrol I like to give out crime prevention advice to certain people. For example when walking down a unsafe street I noticed a young lady on her ipad waiting for the bus. I told her its very likely some lad on a bike could snatch it from her as we have had a few incidents this year in the area. Anyone else do the same?

Not sure whether this has already been created or not (sorry if it has) Is there insurance companies that do discounted car insurance prices for specials? Just looked at a quote and they want 2500 for my first year which is ridiculous Any help? Thanks

Hello all, I've not posted in a while and thought what better time to post after being stopped by the police for using a mobile while cycling, or as they put it "cycling without due care and attention" To my understanding there is no such offence. Please correct me if I am wrong but would the accusation be "Careless cycling"? Anyway officer in passenger seat of marked police car behind me puts his head out of the window and shouts "oi you on the bike stop now" He did not say he was police, I have no rear facing mirror, no blue lights or horn/siren was used. For all I know it could be someone trying to mug me.. anyway I look behind me & see its a police car so I st…
