Alright, To cut a long story short this Friday I ended up taking a 136 Prisoner to the local A&E after the MH Suite refused to take him due potential problems with his heart rhythm, they wanted him checking out and then bringing back if all was ok, not a problem I thought (yeah right.) Typical Friday night in A&E, drunks everywhere, people shouting and screaming and not an NHS security guard insight - just two very out of place looking railway bobbies with a DP who was more or less comatose through drink. I ended up having to assist staff with another awkward male that by rights could've come in for D&D if my hands weren’t tied up with my 136 detention. N…

Hi, Wondered if anyone knows what distance and pace and incline you need to run to get your heart to the bleep test level on a treadmill? I understand that officers who are unable to do the bleep test have to do a run on a treadmill but wondered at what level etc so I can test myself? Thanks

The facebook group UKCopHumour uploaded a post from Stuart Davidson (aka PC David Copperfield of Wasting Police Time fame) in which he discusses his experience policing in Edmonton, Alberta and how it differs from his experience in the UK. I thought it might be an interesting read for those who don't follow that group on facebook. (Mods I didn't put it in the overseas section because I thought it was sufficiently relevant to domestic discussions - please move if you disagree)

Not terribly sure if we can embed YouTube videos, but anyway, I was watching a clip from COPS from the US; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf5Nu9e4p80 When the female goes on her front, with arms tucked underneath, the Officer uses his baton as leverage between her arms and body to free her arm. I've never seen it done or taught despite being in that situation numerous times. Do you think it's reasonable to do every time someone is on their front and resisting the release of their arms or only reasonable when they have a weapon, as in the above situation? Seems quite effective as it can be difficult to get a well built individual's arms out for a rear stack.

Simply.. Can you have a Section 18 GBH "without" intent? Can you have a Section 20 GBH "with" intent?

Fellow members, and with the kind permission of Lord Vader... A quick note just to tell you about the Police & Military Tietac Service. We have been synonymous among police badge collectors since 1998. We are a non-profit organisation that produce lapel pins for police & military units, with all proceeds to nominated charities. Our website is the biggest of it's kind in the United Kingdom and we have produced lapel pins for most Forces around the Country. Some of you may have seen the recent BBC1 " Traffic Cops" if you had spotted the Traffic officers wearing the Rat lapel pins, they were produced by us with proceeds to good causes. Sadly in this day and ag…

Any advice? I have been stopped a couple of times. Also once nicked for flashing. What are my chances?

Not sure if this has been mentioned before or if there is a law for it as i haven't started training yet (Feb 14). On the road wars xmas special last night at the end 2 females decided to whip their breasts out and show the police what they were packing. Obviously if a male flashed his chest then it wouldn't be an issue as its common for males to walk around topless? What would you do if you were on duty, and a couple of ladies walked past and flashed their breasts and told you to enjoy your night? Is it acceptable for a female to flash breasts/ bottom but not a male? I've seen females walking down the street flashing the police their arse but the moment a lad moons h…

Prohibition road signs This is an opinion question regardless if you are an officer or not. The prohibition roadsigns [white circle with red border and black markings] for example the maximum speed limit sign http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/UK_50_mph_speed_limit_sign_on_a_single-carriageway.jpg , prohibits any speed above the speed shown right? The cycling prohibition sign http://www.signservicesuk.com/online/thumb.php?src=products/large/1231839907_P951.jpg&wmax=300&hmax=400&quality=100&bgcol=FFFFFF is identical in terms of the fact that it shows what is not allowed, so to speak. So my opinion based question is, why does the …

Hello Everyone. I am applying as a Special Constable and have my day 1 assessment in February which I am extremely excited about - this will be my second time around as I had failed previously for Herts Constabulary on the written test by 1 mark!!! (gutted). I thought I would start a thread off letting you know my stages (hopefully it will not just be this one post) - I'm hoping to pass this time around as I feel I now know what to expect and feel I will be better equipped to deal with it. I have my day one for the Met in February. Anyone gone through the Met who can give me a heads up?

Generally speaking, how busy is Christmas Eve for city centres, pubs and clubs?

This being a predominately specials dominated site, there is obviously an air of positivity around specials, and so there should be! However this can lead to a slight bias. I spoke to some regulars yesterday on twitter (after InspectorGadget's outburst about relegating us to garden fetes) and whilst supportive of specials, they did not like the specials going into specialised roles, however I got an air of them feeling ok with it if that special had earnt the right to it. Obviously this means each special has an obligation of sorts to ensure that we do remain supporting the regs, not just plugging the gaps. I would be interested to hear of bad experiences people have h…
