Hi guys, Seen this around a few times and was just wondering about the legal status of it? Would you pull up someone who has these lights attached to their dust caps? Is there any law to this? Here is a link of one of them This one is for a bike but they can be used on cars too : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z79f_-X5t_w

Hi guys, Just wondered what inspired you to become a police officer, either special or regular. Thought it might be good to hear everyone's story. My inspiration came from The Bill, I was fixated from quite a young age (maybe 7 or 8) and it's kinda stuck. When I was older I read more and more into policing and the law and decided this is the way I wanted to go. Only heading to be a special at the moment, gunna live a little first before going full time . I later found out that a large proportion of my Dad's family are in the police, so perhaps it's in the blood. What about you...? (Mods feel free to move this if I've put it in the wrong area)

Mods, please move if you feel this is the wrong area. I'm looking for a new savings account (now that my ISA rate has dropped to a pitiful 0.25%) and the Police Mutual Investment Choice came to my attention. I currently live at home, and would probably put between £500 - £1000 depending on how much I have left at the end of the month. (I have very little in the way of bills!) I'm aware that my savings could take a hit, although as they invest through a range of products and should be 'experts' at selection, I'm hoping that I will in the long term receive a small reward. Has anyone used this product or anything similar from Police Mutual? If so, what are your opinions? Di…

I've been noticing that when I've been watching COPS they place Tasers against the necks of un compliant prisoners and threaten to use them if they don't comply with their orders and I was just wondering if this tactic would be allowed to be used the in the UK or would it be deemed to extreme?

No, this isn't an innuendo bingo thread I'm just wondering if you're getting what you wanted out of being a special? I'm really struggling with it and am very close to throwing in the towel. The reasons are many and varied but I was curious as to whether this is a normal feeling?

It's not unusual to become involved in one incident only to have it lead to something completely different. Example from last week: I attended a noise complaint in a block of flats and as we were leaving two of the neighbours came outside to see what was going on - smoking a joint. Our boring noise complaint led to a more interesting drugs search when the smokers made a dash for their front door. Bonus! I guess most of us have good examples from traffic stops - I once stopped a car because it had a crack in the windscreen only to find the back full of stolen cable. Anyone had any particularly entertaining/random 'bonus' offences, where one incident has led to somethi…

Throughout this year I have been working exclusively in the arena of Policing and Mental Health in a very interesting project. I am all to aware that it is a topic that often provokes strong thoughts and feelings and leaves officers often frustrated and bemused. So whilst I may regret this I thought I would open up an offer to try and provide some answers to any common questions that you may have or if nothing else to open up a fresh conversation on the subject. So fire away....

I'm currently having a look at the Public Order Act and within it, it mentions "public" and "private" places. What do you see the differences being? What, to you, is classed as a public or private place? Any help in clearing this up for me would be great, thanks!

Hi, Im currently a member of police staff and i have the intention to eventually go in as a regular. Currently i would fail the unsighted eyesight however i have had a consultation with an eye surgery clinic. They have suggested two types of treatments LASEK and LASIK and i have a relatively simple prescription e.g no astigmatism or eye conditions. Im just interested in knowing if anyone has had surgery how it has affected everyday life in the job and also why they picked the type of treatment they had. Thanks

I understand cops come under verbal abuse everyday and just have to endure it (resilience right). What are the difference options for dealing with it on a personal and professional level?

Hope this is the right section for this. For those of you interested in The History of The Mets Armed Units there is a new book out on November 29th (it can be pre-ordered on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Stop-Armed-Police-Inside-Firearms/dp/071980826X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1379863447&sr=1-1&keywords=Stop%21+Armed+Police%21 It is basically a history of the unit (probably best known as SO19) from it's inception in 1966 to date and takes the reader through most of the major operations undertaken by the unit over the years. There are hundreds of photos, many from the Met archives and private sources that have never been published before. I was hono…

Context The above is a reply to a comment suggesting that the bus driver should have prevented the group from leaving the bus in the incident where a woman was beaten unconscious. It was this reply though which got me thinking about the way in which things seam to be going. To me there seams to be an increasing tread where criminals are being picked up from their homes (or other know places of stay) hours, possibly days after the crime has been committed, and a reluctance to catch criminals either in the act or just after an incident. Is this a good or bad thing? Does it reduce the association of consequence to actions committed? Interested to know other people's thou…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=h6sGhUM4tuY#t=1473 Just watch from the time I've copied the link from. Not sure myself but can you fib and say "shall I just rewind the car camera?" and then they quickly cautioned her. Don't think that's good practice to be honest, you could be accused of leading her into a confession, irrelevant of whether she was guilty or not.
