I am interested in finding out what are the top 5 incidents, for example robbery, criminal damage, assault, that you come across in your duties, I am interested in finding a bit more about this.

Felt like coming on here for a little rant but also to ask for some advice. I'm working as a special and recently i've been getting a little peeved with some of my colleagues (not specials) who voice their opinions that are not just a little racist or ignorant but frustratingly so. Now i'm by no means saying that all police are racist or bigoted just to be clear on that! But there are one or two that are driving me around the bend. It's not that they are actively abusing members of the public or other officers/staff or anything obvious like that it's just little jokes or comments that are just soaked with racial stereotypes and ignorance or really racist rants in the car…

Don't think this has been covered before so here we go, it's a controversial power which again and again is in the press and seems to be the whipping boy of many so how would you cope if suddenly you couldn't Stop & Search?

I apologise in advance, as I am not a regular! However, one of the PCs I work with is somewhat dissilusioned with the job. He thinks he may have been better off in the Army but can't afford the lifestyle and pay change right now. A recent post similar to this made clear that Specials can in fact join the reserves (T.A, RAFR etc), although I thought it was completely off limits, as long as it is given the all clear by your force and your prospective reserve unit it's okay. The only issue being that already being a reserve is a problem when getting into the Police, by the looks of it once you're in things change. So I'm wondering on behalf of my mate if this is the ca…

Long story short, due to the financial situation and so forth, my constabulary has opened itself up to having greater communication between the bobbies and the bosses. I've been asked to look at what we do wrong, what we do right, and what we can do better. In relation to this, i'm a big advocate of looking at how other people do things, and adapting their ideas to our own needs. In short, i'm sure every force does things better or worse than others. Im trying to find the best policies, procedures or whatever, with the ultimate goal of a smoother running machine without vast financial expense. So, i'm just after anything which your constabulary does 'good'. It can be a…

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the overseas section, so please feel free to move the thread if it's more appropriate elsewhere. I stumbled across this episode, which I though was an interesting watch. Part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmUSf-4Pyeo Part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Njg3-QkzrpQ

So after some time watching a YouTube England 2011 riot documentary ( ) That got me thinking would the Police/Government be prepared if days of disorder took place in august this year. The reason I say this is that there are some more things to take into consideration: Number of people taking part (if people have strong community relations with the police or a downside people watched what happened in 2011 and may have thought 'What fun let's join in') Water cannons (3 will be ready for use in London by the summer) and Plastic bullets (also more officers trained) Hotspots now known by police who can divide where officers need to go Public Order equipment more widely av…

Hello there, I am new to these forums and would like to ask the question - What benefits do you receive as a Special Constable? Does it differ from force to force? I am particular interested in Thames Valley, as I am in the middle of becoming a Special Constable. I would like to know more about Expenses, mileage allowance and general benefits - money off insurance? restaurants? e.t.c Also what would be recognised for a bonus as a special? Thanks in advance of any responses. Regards Sorry, Posted this in wrong area.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section... I frequently see people coming round in vans collecting scrap metal out of alleyways and gardens around my road and always call it in on the non emergency number, because they're basically thieves - not just taking bits of junk, I've seen bikes and stuff that obviously belongs to someone. Usually a unit turns up a few hours later and (obviously) finds nothing, but on this particular occasion units were sent grade 1 within minutes. I asked the operator if I should be calling 999 in future and she said yes if in progress. I went out to point officers in the right direction and some chap in a van asked me what was going on, the…

Just generally, what would a report consist of? Thanks for any help

Sure this has been discussed on here before and appoligies if so, but I just came accross this video, not sure how to embed it: Firstly, incredible proffesionalism and courage from the officers but I was also wandering whether it was reasonable to put the officers that first responded at such personal risk. Seems to me that cases like this make a great case for a wider roll out of taser and more armed response units so officers don't have to deal with incidents like this with just standard PPE. Thoughts?

Just a quick simple question. With so many boots on the market, which ones do you prefer and why?

Whilst on twitter earlier came across the attached images showing a police car that had been driven through flood water near to Yeovil. https://twitter.com/MattSmithson1/status/419839690062049280/photo/1 Made me laugh considering all the police advice about not driving through flood water given to the public. I do feel sorry for the officers, must be embarrasing having to call up for assistance as a result of breaking down in flood water. Wouldn't fancy having to explain this. C.
