I just thought that I would shear my happiness :-D. I had my swear in ceremony today, was bit nervous giving the oath but all went well and I am the part of the family now. Ever so proud. :-D cant wait to get out there to serve and protect the community :-D

When executing an arrest warrant (e.g. showing up at a suspect's home address and arresting the suspect there), what's the necessity for arrest (based on IDCOPPLAN), besides the usual "prompt and effective"? Is there anything else on top of it?

Hi. Please could someone confirm if a constable only has power of entry if the accident which has occurred involved injury to any person; I understand that the constable must suspect that the driver is in the place to be entered but need to know if this power still applies if no injury has occurred

I'm in my final year at uni studying forensic computing and security. For my dissertation i'm looking into the possibility of digitalising the contemporaneous note recording process and aim to develop a tablet application that automatically time stamps entries and removes the need for one of those old fashioned pens. My main focus is from the digital forensics sense, but the same principles apply to policing and our handy little PNBs! My question relates to when PNBs are used in court, either as evidence or to prompt the officer about what happened at a certain incident. What legislation governs all this? PACE seems obvious but ive looked over most the act and can't see …

I dont know if mods want this in general discussion but feel free to move if wanted As lots of people may know already it has been said that only our full time paid colleagues can get an increase in their tax free allowance for their income to allow for the fact that they need to wash their uniform at home. After a conversation with a few people from the inland revenue (I rang up twice and spoke to different people) and I have it in writing, that Special Constables can get an extra £140 on top of their tax free allowance, but only IF: - Your force pays a duty allowance i.e a certain payment for coming on duty like £9-£23 which is the home office circular. (which is t…

Hi all, I am currently doing some road traffic revision. I am struggling with the driver number bit. Below is an example driver no from Blackstones. MORGA657054SM9IJ So I understand the first bit is the first 5 of the surname. I also understand that the first and last digits before SM are the year if birth. (64) As well as 05 being the day of birth. But I cannot get my head around the month of birth, a female has 5 added to the second digit. According to the book though a female would born in December would be 62. Has anyone got an easy way of working out the day of birth please for male and females? Thanks. Nick.

Does anyone know of ANY force/constabulary that will take a pass Police SEARCH Recruit Assessment Centre certificate that was taken in August 2012. I understand they are valid for a period of 12 months, however, I have heard of some forces extending this to 18/24 months. Unfortunately the force I initially applied to had only 18 positions with many many more successful applications and so understandably worked from the top down in order of pass mark. I obviously never made it into the top 18, however, I did pass to the national standard. It seems only now that forces are starting to once again open up recruitment after many years of freezing them. I'd appreciate you…

Evening folks, little query on behalf of an ex-colleague of mine. He joined the Met as a reg a couple of years back and ended up resigning before completing his probation due to external factors. He's now considering reapplying to his local county force (TVP) and giving it another shot. Does anybody know anyone who's done something like this and succeeded? I've never heard of it and I'm not sure it's possible.

Has there been any circumstances where those of you who currently serve have lost your rag with a member of the public or said something you later went on to regret. Perhaps an argument with a protestor or maybe someone just hurling abuse at you? I'm not far from my first training session now, I know that the theoretical side of learning the job will be difficult but is it tougher then actually being able to keep your personal views from your profession at all times?

Just doing as much research as possible! Let's say I am on independent foot patrol and I witness someone driving whilst using a handheld phone. What would be the procedure to deal with this and how would I prove that the driver was using the mobile at that time, if I call it in? A picture on my phone would mean that my phone would get seized for evidence and anyway standing there with an iPhone out would look rather unprofessional? Thanks!

Does anyone know where I would get these from? I spoke to a Police Mutual and they don't issue a separate book of definitions and points to prove to BTP officers. I cannot find them anywhere and would rather not have to trawl the PNLD for them all as it will take forever. Nothing in my Blackstones Police Operational Handbook either!
