Last night something rather unsettling unfolded across the road from our house - a guy was chasing his girlfriend (im guessing) with a knife and was shouting that he was gunna cut her up (Im gunna F***ing stab you, b***h or something like that). Luckily she managed to run into her house few doors down, and I called the police. If she didnt make it into a house, or he managed to catch her, would I have been justified to confront him with a replica firearm ? Hello all, I've just come across this light. Would an offence be committed if: * A MOP attached one of these lights to their car at the scene of an accident? * An off-duty Police Officer attached one of these lights to their car at the scene of an accident? The description, below, makes it seem as if Police Officers, but not members of the public would be justified in using it as above. But I'm interested in what the law says. Regards, Jackisback

Browsing the internet recently and came across this (Comtech stinger) Designed to be used like this. Would this be legal to carry around as a keychain?

Basically, one of my friends, who works as an EMT for a private medical company(event cover sort of deal), is complaining that GMP are prosecuting ' trained bluelight drivers for speeding who carry Time Critical Transplant Organs and any Private Ambulance Emergency Transfer'(his words, not mine)- surely it isn't up to the force- they either have the exemptions, or they don't? Or am i missing something that leaves it up to GMPs discretion? Just interested, not looking for advice, Cheers Alan

I know that this is one of the items that is on the banned list, is there some sort of exemption when it comes to an antique shop selling one?? From my understanding (rightly or wrongly) if your granddad for example had one in the loft, you couldn't sell it, give it away etc......so what exactly would one do with it? I have seen them on 'Antique Roadshow' from time to time, I'm guessing that the owners have already broken the law simply by transporting them out in public??

Hi all, Take this scenario - person slaps another person on the cheek during a heated argument in the street. Is this common assault or affray ? Im not sure how much difference that makes to a constable, but in the world of private citizens (eg security officer) I believe only affray is arrestable under pace, as its indictable etc so could be very relevant if there was a need to detain the person (beyond common law breach of the peace powers) All the best Steve

Example; Officer pulls over a car/van or whatever. The officer asks the driver to open the boot/rear doors so he can have a look. The Officer sees something illegal, drugs/weapons etc and makes an arrest. Was this search legal? Because the officer asked and the driver consented? Obviously if the driver refuses, then the officer needs to use power if it exists. What about the same situation, but with regards to actual searching. When I was at university back in 1998 I was arrested for having a small amount of cannabis in my possession, I need to complete a CRB to get work as a teacher- will this be something I need to declare and will it show on a CRB check? I remember waiting in the police station and the duty Sargent spoke to me, took less than an hour. Would I have been given a formal caution and how could I find out?

Hi, I recently got a ticket on my car for 'Failing to display current exercise licence' on 12/06/12. My tax disc expired on 31/05/12. A few days after my tax disc expired, i was making arrangements to get a new tax disc when i realised that my MOT had run out. So i called my garage to arrange an MOT asap as without an MOT i was unable to get a new tax disc. The soonest date that my garage could fit me in was 14/06/12. Changes to PACE codes C & H proposed in November 2011 came into play yesterday with changes to code G coming into effect in November 2012. I haven't had a chance to read through the guidance my force has issued; I would be interested to know if anyone has spotted any potential problems or even something that would make our job easier? Hi all again, Just wanted any advice on how to introduce a fixed penalty notice into evidence. My initial hunch is that it should be treated like any other exhibit, i.e exhbit label attached and introduced via the issuing persons statement of evidence. My only concern is that I have not seen FPN's with exhibit labels attached, so thought they might be handled in some other way. Also, if FPN is handled same as any other exhibit, what happens concerning its 'continuity'.
