I'm not a response trained driver and I've never asked my neighbour this question but its always bugged me. When we respond to blue light calls with the siren going my neighbour tells me to change the tone of the siren depending on the traffic / junction / bua etc (our siren isn't hooked up to the horn like the rest so there's a two way switch on the dash). Can anyone tell me why you chane the tone and what different situations require what tone?

Personally i think the good old two tone compressed air horn siren should be brought back, i think it is the ultimate siren of the police, i think traffic hear it better than electronic ones, it sounds better, has some substance and especially sounds great on a full psu going to a shout. maybe its just me but i would have this anyday over any of the new electronic ones. p.s and it reminds me of the film the bank job, billy elliot etc. ha ha. blast from the past : Good old gmp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmDL9z97-CM and old two tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3WE5Jmwwk8

I had the opportunity to visit Venson who do vehicle conversions for a number of forces and ambulance services as we are looking to get two skodas marked up for our ambulance service and WOW! there was easily well over 200 brand spanking new Vauxhalls all marked up in various police livery! not even registered with the DVLA yet! apparently they had 250 Skoda Octavias there last week! Was super impressed with their work! What a job!

Are the Electronic sounding Bullhorn's legal on Civilian Cars? Only ask because i heard/saw one today and thought it was only the 999 services that were permitted to have these as they were classed as part of the siren? Thanks,

I've noticed from a few posts around PS.com that a few people collect models of police vehicles in various scales. I do too, mostly from places i've been to around the world. Originally picked 1:24, but there is very little base vehicle availability so in the end went with 1:43. A lot of vehicles can be found ready to run, although many require custom work. It's a bit of fun and looks nice on the shelf. I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in sharing thier collections/hints/tips. Just a few pics of my small collection and some work in progress shots on some latest projects by a friend.

For forces who have switched to the new Ford Astra. What do we think? Our force do not seem to prefer them, but each week one Focus is replaced with an Astra!

I've always thought Range Rovers are the best looking police vehicles for the shear size, presence and status, but as the list price jumps every generation, there are less liveried versions seen. Does anyone know if there are likely to be any of the new Range Rover as police vehicles? I do hope they will not be lost from the fleets...

I was doing a drop off the other day at heathrow and I am sure I saw a shogun met vehicle with inspector stickers in red on the rear window? Is this the new thing for police vehicle now or just heathrows own little thing?

We've had a fair bit of snow up here. One of the Van's went out to assist some residents and the crew had to abandon it in the snow. The following pictures show where it ended up..... This is usually a main road from the West to the North of the island. If you look closely, you might spot something familer..... After being buried for 3 days, it's now being dug out! This photo shows the height of snow drifts that have blocked some roads!
