Just wondering, what do the numbers on the roo fof the vehicles mean, I assume it's an identifier but I see some photos and they have the same number as others on the front of the roof, and at the rear a unique number it seems?

What's up with the Police Vehicles section these days? It used to be such a well used and discussed section of the Forum. Answers on a postcard?

A thread was recently locked for fear of revealing some hush hush info regarding a white van with blues. BUT surely from the description it was far from covert (e.g. it had a lightbar and other plainly visible attachments) so why the nervousness? Unmarked? maybe. Covert? Not really. Like the RLC EOD wagons that can have the words BOMB DISPOSAL covered up, but there's little hiding what it is.

So on the bus today, i saw a plain white transit, lightbars, side mounted surface strobes, and grille lights, flying along with all these clear lights lit up blue... Driver and passenger didn't looked "job" by what they were wearing, anyone know what this might be? First guess was training vehicle?

A thread for general discussion of police vehicles, to alleviate some of the pressure off the Best Pictures of Police Cars thread which nowadays seems to have very few photos in & lots of general vehicle discussion. As previously, photos do belong in the Best Pictures of Police Cars thread.

Hi everyone, I'm in need of some help. I have a great interest in starting a collection of code3 dicast models but I want to make them. I have no problem making realistic liverys/decals on Photoshop but my issue is how I'm going to make them in a 1/43 scale (pre-shaped/cut design) Does anyone have experience on this? I want to make these as realistic as possible. I have thought about printing a generic design and cutting into shape. Do they use blueprints of real cars and scale them down to 1/43? And if so how would I go about doing this on photoshop.

Hello, I am wondering if the police car's now days have built in PNC's and ANPR or just specific special vehicles? As lately i saw a Motoway cop's episode on BBC1 where they had a PNC already in there car and others had to call it in to access PNC. Thanks

Was driving home the other evening when I passed an unmarked vehicle which had one of the old school spinning roof lights, the ones you see in the 80's movies when they wind down the window and slam the light on top... Question is do any forces still use these types of lights?? When I drove past the driver was not in any uniform but thats not that unusual, what did seem strange was that it had lights under the grill. I didnt understand why you would have fancy LED grill lights and then a spinning light on top. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated...

Went out in a new marked Astra the other day and noticed a button on the dash named "RMAR". Anybody know what this is? I'm yet to do a course for maked vehicles, but I've never seen this before on any other blue light vehicle. Is it something to do with run lock?

Ladies & Gents, In my force our standard patrol vehicles are being phased out from 1.6 Ford Focuses to 1.3 Vauxhall Astra's. A common theme with the new Astra's is that they are underpowered. I'm interested to hear whether other forces use bigger engines etc and the reasons behind it (to reduce maintenance costs for example). I've heard West Mids have pushed the boat out and bought Insignia automatics for their general patrol vehicles. Does anyone know if there's a cost advantage to this and what they're like? I also see that Derbyshire use Astra estates... Again, are they better and more fit for purpose? Cheers, WT

Hi all, This may have been posted before but I wanted to know everyones opinion. Due to working in rural county we require the use of 4 wheel drives quite a lot. My question is what is your 4 wheel drive of choice for duty? Mine is the Freelander 2 TD. It seems a go anywhere vehicle, I have also driven the 4 wheel drive transit but I am not as keen. All opinions welcome!!
