Officer who shot dead Anthony Grainger could face murder charge, police watchdog warns The firearms officer who shot dead Salford man Anthony Grainger in a car was today interviewed under caution by police watchdogs. And the Independent Police Complaints Commission revealed that 'a range of potential offences' were being considered, including unlawful manslaughter and murder. The Met Traffic specials Twitter feed has already been discussed on here, but the actual substance of the take-over day hasn't. Itv News has picked up on the story here: http://www.itv.com/news/london/2012-04-06/first-for-met-as-special-constables-take-over/ The whole late shift on Saturday 31st March for the Traffic OCU North West garage was covered by the MSC, all calls were dealt with by the Specials with no regular officer involvement. In fact the only regular officer on shift was the teams liaison sergeant - they were needed to deal with any police collisions as Met policy is that a Traffic supervisor must investigate them. A move to recruit hundreds of extra London police officers has been criticised as panic-stricken after scores of trainees failed security vetting, health checks and classroom exams. More than 400 Police Community Support Officers were selected for training to become fully-fledged officers in February. It was part of moves to meet Boris Johnson’s target of deploying 32,000 police on the capital’s streets.
