SKY NEWS A bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a crash on the M5 in which a man died. About 40 people were injured when a lorry slammed into the rear of a bus which had broken down in the inside lane of the motorway in thick fog. Witnesses said visibility was "poor" when the crash happened at dawn on Saturday between junctions three and four, southwest of Birmingham. The 49-year-old bus driver, from Birmingham, was held and released on bail after a 35-year-old man, also from the city, died. Two people, including the lorry driver remain in serious condition. Others suffered less serious injuries. Firefighters said one…

Hi, Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere but I couldn;t find anything relevant and havng asked the feds and payroll, no-one seems to be sure of the answer, so are there any budding accountants out there ???? Basically my question is in relation to the way child benefit taxation is to be calculated from Jan 2013, following the announcement in the budget. According to HMRC, from Jan 2013 Child benefit is to be determined based on ADJUSTED NET INCOME. The full payment will still be made to the recipient, but the higher rate tax payer in the house will pay a tax calculated from the adjusted net income. HMRC says adjusted net income is calculated as follows:- Ta…

Just reminds you that each person is an architect of their on fate regarding Facebook! A police force has apologised after an officer posted comments on Facebook apparently mocking Falklands War veteran Simon Weston. Mr Weston, who suffered 46% burns in 1982, said the remarks were in "poor judgment and poor taste". Essex Police has not named the officer involved but has begun an investigation. A force spokesman said: "We have apologised to Mr Weston and his family." The remarks on the social networking site, which made reference to Mr Weston's burns, have now been removed. Mr Weston sustained the serious injuries to his face and body after the ship he was on was bomb…

http://www.policeoracle.com/news/Crime/2012/Mar/28/Anti-Corruption-Probe-At-Warwickshire-HQ_46611.html I had a discussion with a non-police mate not long ago, and he simply would not accept that the continued attack on pay and conditions brought with it a huge risk that hard up officers would be targets for the criminal fraternity who choose to try and corrupt them. Well, I can genuinely see more of this kind of thing, if perhaps not on the same scale, in the event that Winsor 2 is pushed through in its entirety. Mrs May - you have been warned!

A man who pretended to be a qualified barrister in court to represent a friend he met in prison has been jailed for 18 months. David Sydney Evans, 57, of Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, walked into the advocates' room at Plymouth Crown Court wearing a gown and wig, and went to the cells to visit the friend. But the judge picked up on a series of "hopelessly wrong" legal submissions. He was previously convicted for pretending to be a psychologist. Evans was found guilty at Bristol Crown Court earlier this month of the latest offence. He had been serving a sentence for obtaining money by deception at Dartmoor prison when he met cannabis producer Terry Moss, the man he trie…

Out-of-breath cops fail to recognise the perpetrator Witnesses to a crime might recall events and faces less accurately if physically exhausted at the time of the incident. That's the conclusion from a study in which 52 police officers were asked to recall events and identify suspects from ID parades after reconstructed crime. Lorraine Hope of the University of Portsmouth, UK, and colleagues gave all participants a briefing about a pretend burglary. Half of them then exercised for around a minute, to the point of exhaustion. A minute later, all the police officers were taken to a house where they were confronted by the prime suspect of the burglary. Only 27 per cent of…
