Senior Scotland Yard staff showed poor judgement in their relationship with ex-News of the World executive Neil Wallis, the police watchdog says. Mr Wallis was appointed as an adviser to the Met in 2009 and his daughter also secured a job with the force. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) found no evidence of corruption but said policies were breached and boundaries "blurred". Scotland Yard said it accepted the findings and would take them forward. The IPCC found that the former head of Public Affairs at Scotland Yard, Dick Fedorcio, "effectively employed" Mr Wallis before a written contract was prepared or agreed. The IPCC also criticised former Ass…

Community support officers in South Yorkshire could become the "first line of contact" for the public Continue reading the main story Former Home Secretary David Blunkett has criticised plans to replace traditional beat bobbies with police community support officers (PCSOs). South Yorkshire Police's plan would see PCSOs rebranded local beat officers as the public's "first line of contact". Mr Blunkett, whose constituency would be affected by the changes, introduced PCSOs in 2002. He says they were never intended to replace police. The plans are to be discussed at a police authority meeting later. They have been put forward by the force's new Chief Constable David Cr…

A great news story, away from racism. Amol Rajan: Bravery has a badge, but no identity is necessary. The most inspiring act of civic heroism I have ever seen took place a few days ago. At London's Edgware Road tube station a thin, 6ft 4in Asian man, probably in his mid-20s, was shouting obscene, racist, sexually explicit abuse at four Somali girls wearing the hijab. They all got on the last carriage, the girls at one end, the Asian at the other. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/amol-rajan-bravery-has-a-badge-but-no-identity-is-necessary-7614542.html Who ever this Officer is Well bloody done!!

The Scottish government has said money from criminals will help police officers who have been assaulted. Scottish courts have dealt with about 5,000 cases of assaults on police officers in the past two years. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-17683679 Great idea, assuming the criminals have money, or does one have to get insurance out if you intend being a criminal? Either way, why not in England Wales too?

Man shines laser pen at police chopper. Laser blinds officers inside chopper and could be potentially fatal (causing crashes etc). Man gets OFF. Ridiculous and an even more ridiculous excuse as to why he did it. Helicopter laser man spared jail 11 April 2012 Last updated at 13:37 Help A man who shone a laser pen at a police helicopter has avoided going to prison "by a whisker", a judge has said. Stuart Bowering, 31, from Bristol, said he had been using the laser pen to wear out his dogs on a walk last December and had not realised its power. The father-of-five, from Hawkfield Road, Hartcliffe, pleaded guilty to recklessly or negligently acting in a manner likely to…
