http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17751188 Why is it that, when things go wrong, watchdogs call for more regulations? By their own findings at least one of the parties either ignored, or didn't know, the regulations in the first place. How on earth will having more regulations improve the situation? The answer is enforcement and training NOT more rules, surely. Have we learned nothing from the last administration who just created legislation as if it was going out of fashion without adding to the numbers of people who enforced it? There are certain things that can't be covered by CCTV or speed cameras and personnel may be expensive, but if they save lives…

Special officers on horseback to ride for Norfolk Three special officers and a PCSO will be patrolling the countryside in south Norfolk as part of Operation Randall Special officers on their own horses will patrol the Norfolk countryside in an attempt to combat rural crime. The three special officers and one police community support officer will ride the beat in south Norfolk using their own horses for the patrols. Officers said having access to farms and bridleways would have a "huge impact" on what they could do. Mounted patrol officers had been previously last used in Norfolk in the mid-1900s. The move comes as part of the force's Operation Randall, a project t…

Misheard 999 Call Prompts Police Response To Minature Railway Train enthusiasts were shocked when 999 crews sped to the scene of a minor accident at a miniature railway. The mix up came after emergency services call handlers misheard a 999 call requesting help after a "miniature train accident" as a "military train accident". Two ambulance crews and a police car shot to the scene - and only bad weather prevented the air ambulance being launched, reports the Daily Telegraph. When they arrived 999 crews were greeted by bemused train enthusiasts enjoying an afternoon riding the three-quarter mile long miniature railway in Canvey Island, Essex. Further investigation re…

http://news.uk.msn.c...s-beat-officers Proposals to rebrand community support officers are to be presented to the police authority. Under the proposals being considered in South Yorkshire, PCSOs will become the "first line of contact" for the public, with the title local beat officer (LBO). However, former home secretary David Blunkett has raised concerns about the proposals. Regular officers would be grouped into so-called "taskable teams" available to deal with serious incidents, with PCSOs carrying out all grassroots work on the streets. But Mr Blunkett, who introduced PCSOs, urged caution, saying: "Community support officers are intended to be part of neighbourho…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17738569 Many years ago London Transport ran the tube network. It employed all the staff and paid them according to their grades and work responsibilities. Then someone had the bright idea of splitting them up into different bits and then employing them back on different terms and conditions. Now, setting aside the blood boiling antics of the unions, there are a group of people who are voting to strike to get their terms and conditions changed so they have parity with their colleagues in other parts of the network. Quite how it ever got the stage that a group of people who have responsibility for three of the tube lines got…

Police 'should be given 20 minutes a week to reflect' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9205661/Police-should-be-given-20-minutes-a-week-to-reflect.html Between solving crimes, tackling disorder and comforting victims, hard-pressed officers rarely have time to think about the varied nature of their work, according to the research by the RSA think-tank. I should be a think tank, get paid lots of money, plenty of ideas, none useful thou.

Police face conspiracy charges Four police officers are facing conspiracy charges following an investigation into another officer's claims he was jailed for a crime he did not commit. Sultan Alam was sentenced to 18 months in 1996 for conspiracy to steal vehicle parts, but has always claimed he was innocent. The former Cleveland Police constable's allegations were taken up by the Police Complaints Authority after his release - and officers from the Northumbria Force were asked to investigate on its behalf. Cleveland Police confirmed on Tuesday that four of its officers - one of whom has now retired - are to be charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice…
