http://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/news/crime/family-s-anger-as-oap-who-caused-easington-biker-s-death-is-given-curfew-1-6628702 Not breaking news, but I think it holds an interesting prospect regarding elderly drivers. If you were the Judge/Magistrate, would you advocate throwing the book at her, or would you use her age as a mitigation factor? Very sad for the Johnson family, my thoughts go out to them.

Theresa May has ripped up the Tory pact with the policeThe home secretary's brave speech stunned the coppers' union. It shows how far the Conservative party has come since Thatcher Theresa May is 'the most radical and effective police reformer to have occupied the home secretary’s chair in at least half a century'. Illustration by Matt Kenyon Theresa May's speech to the Police Federation annual conference today was by any standards an extraordinary political moment. It wasn't the first time that this home secretary has made a speech that the combative police representative organisation disliked. But its frankness and toughness reduced the Bournemouth hall to stunne…

Irish police will be able to strike, hold pay talks and organise a trade union Irish police have won the right to strike for the first time in their 90-year history under a European ruling. The decision by the European Committee of Social Rights means gardaí will be able to strike, hold pay talks and organise a trade union. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2631497/Now-America-loses-Blairs-Ill-Iraq-war-letter-Bush-Mystery-missing-note-told-US-President-Whatever-Im-you.html - How very convenient for Teflon Blair, I expect the letter was shredded like his expenses forms, very accidentally of course.(not). Sounds as if Heywood is sticking up for his old Boss by wanting to keep the letters secret, time for Cameron to show some balls and just tell Heywood to release them to Chilcott so that he can release the report.

MPs have called for sweeping changes to counter-terrorism policing, including stripping Scotland Yard of its role in overseeing and leading investigations. The Home Affairs Select Committee said responsibility for counter-terrorism should move from the Met Police to the six-month-old National Crime Agency. It said intelligence agencies required better oversight and accountability. The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) said MPs had misunderstood the Met's role. The government has already considered and dropped a proposal to move counter-terrorism to the National Crime Agency (NCA) - although it has not ruled out making the switch once the new agency is bedded …
