Campaigners say the cuts will jeopardise police operations Continue reading the main storyRelated Stories Sniffer dogs helping in McCann caseWatch MPs urged to protect police dogs There have been significant reductions to UK police dog and horse units as a result of government spending curbs, figures obtained by BBC News reveal. Since 2009, police dogs have been cut by more than 200 and five forces have disbanded their mounted sections. Campaigners say the reductions will jeopardise police operations. The Home Office, which has cut police funding by 20% in real terms over four years, says police still have enough resources to do their work. Forty-eight police force…

When threads are shut down or removed. In the spirit of openness and transparency , can the moderators please explain why they have taken such drastic action? In particular, I would like to know why the Election 2015/Political debate thread, which did appear one of the more used threads, has mysteriously been removed without explanation.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27581533 Hundreds of police officers in England and Wales failed a fitness test due to become mandatory later this year. Interim results submitted to the College of Policing from 39 forces show that 851 officers fell short of the mark - out of 30,000 tests. Of those who failed the test, 253 were male and 598 female. The national police lead for fitness testing, ACC Rob Price, said the results showed the vast majority of officers tested were fit. The fitness test involves officers reaching a certain level during a 15-metre "bleep test". The "bleep test" is so called because it requires officers to carry out shuttle runs between two markers…

This would be relatively amusing if the officer hadn't completely misinterpreted the offence he is arresting the guy for. It requires that someone might actually mistake the individual in question for a police officer - could this really have been the case here when he is wearing a pig mask and has massive, obviously toy handcuffs on his belt. Let's hope it doesn't get anywhere near a court or it will be a pretty embarrassing day for GMP. The video of the encounter is embedded in the article at the following link: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/steven-peers-pig-mask-man-7166213

After such very very bad election results for Nick Clegg, I cannot believe all the comments he has made regarding his possible resigning. What arrogance. Just now I saw him being interviewed from a school somewherewhere he was repeating over and over again the same things. At the end of the day, the decision may not be his to make, particularly as more of his party members seem to be calling for the same thing. His party maynot be as wealthy as the conservatives, but i'm sure that there will be people who are wealthy enough to bebank-rolling the Lib Dems, and it may be people like them who have the final say !

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-27692723 I know it seems to be "bash the Kent PCC" season at the moment, but I don't quite follow why such a big deal is being made of this. As the girl's parent, you may not be too happy if she has a relationship with a person twice her age, but there's nothing illegal about it and I wonder why it's considered a matter of public concern at all, to be honest.
