Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Stephen Bett, has today, Thursday, June 19, stood down from his post after a fresh inquiry was ordered into his expenses claims. Mr Bett, who represented the North Coast division on Norfolk County Council before winning the PCC election in November 2012, said he had taken the decision with “huge reluctance”, but insisted it was temporary while the Independent Police Complaints Commission examines the issue. The IPCC has appointed the City of London police to investigate whether claims Mr Bett made between November 15, 2012 and October 31 last year were accurate. He said: ”This allegation is not new, has already been indepe…

Nothing to do with British policing I know, but I've often wondered why the Americans seem unwilling to ever tighten their gun laws. I am not advocating banning private ownership of firearms, but I just don't get the prevailing American view that just making it a bit more difficult to obtain firearms and prohibiting military style assault weapons somehow infringes on their freedom. Any Americans or people with more of an insight on here?

Approval has been given for the Metropolitan Police to purchase three water cannon for London. Stephen Greenhalgh, deputy mayor for policing and crime, authorised the force buy the cannon from the German Federal Police. The mayor's office said: "By purchasing them now we are able to save over £2.3m compared to buying new devices". The water cannon will not be deployed until the home secretary authorises their use in England and Wales. In a statement the mayor's office said purchasing the cannon now for just over £218,000, before Theresa May approves them, meant they could be bought at a "considerably reduced rate". A Home Office spokesman said: "We are keen to ensure…

My first thought about this is to wonder if the IPCC took into account the possibility that many complaints are false and are made to muddy the waters or to disrupt investigations. I've lost count of the number of times that I've been told that I've only arrested someone because of their colour or background, although none of these has turned into official complaints but the possibility is there each and every time it happens. As for lack of diversity training every part of the recruitment process takes it into account from the paper sift to assessment centre then training where the 6 strands of diversity get rammed down everyone's throats. I can't see what else …

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/m6-crash-police-watchdog-probe-7271368 20 mins is a long time for a vehicle to be sat in the middle lane of a motorway, but dare I say it, what do you expect when you have a handful of officers covering the entire North West of England? The people commenting on the MEN's Facebook post stun me, saying the driver of the Mercedes should have pushed it out of the carriageway? I'd like to put some of them in the same situation and see how quick they are to stand in the middle lane of a motorway at night..
