West Yorkshire Police said 16,000 tickets issued by some police community support officers (PCSO) were not valid. Nick Gargan was appointed chief constable in January 2013 and was suspended in May 2014 A group of senior police officers at the Avon and Somerset force has given a vote of no confidence in under-fire chief constable Nick Gargan. Twenty-four of 25 officers balloted said Mr Gargan should not be allowed to return to his post. A panel found him guilty of eight counts of misconduct last month, but Mr Gargan, 48, was cleared to resume his duties after being suspended. On Wednesday he was told to quit by the force's police and crime commissioner. PCC Sue Mountstevens said Mr Gargan had "abused his position" by forwarding emails and "storing intimate images" on his work phon…

Tony Lloyd said "urgent clarification" was required on the proposed changes Changes to the way police forces are funded could see Greater Manchester lose up to £75m, according to the region's police and crime commissioner. Tony Lloyd has warned a proposed move to simplify the Police Allocation Formula (PAF) will leave his force "severely disadvantaged". He said a cut of that size would see the loss of up to 1,560 officers, with the force already facing £100m cuts. The Home Office said the current model was "out of date" and needed changing. A funding consultation is looking at how best to replace the PAF, which has been used for nearly 10 years. Currently, the PAF …

Some partygoers say the officers are making "no difference" A scheme to send two British police officers to party hotspots in Magaluf and Ibiza has been branded "a joke" by some tourists. Two West Midlands Police officers are in the Spanish resorts dealing with victims and offenders from the UK. But some partygoers said the officers were making "no difference". The Foreign Office, which is funding the two-week scheme, said the officers would remind British holidaymakers to respect local customs. 'A bit daft'Sgt Brett Williams and PC Martina Anderson, who arrived in Magaluf on Monday, are working shifts between 07:00 and 22:00. PC Anderson told the BBC she had worke…

South Yorkshire Police is facing cuts in the number of officers it employs More than 1,500 South Yorkshire Police roles could be cut over the next five years, the BBC has learned. Five hundred officers, 1,000 support staff and 150 Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) positions may go. The force said its required savings of £59m by 2020 "will only be achieved by reducing officer and staff numbers". South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings described the potential 1,500 job losses as the "worst case scenario". He said no decisions had been made on which areas of force operations would be cut and he wanted a public discussion on how South Yorkshire P…
