Wouldn't be anything to do with lack of police officers would it? Surely not. Dunno where all the troops will come from either, the Army's been decimated too! http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/593844/terror-threat-Britain-ISIS-attack-defence-armed-soldiers-troops

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/home-office-sets-out-pay-award-for-police-officers Another 1% from Sept 2015! And another 4 years to look forward to 1% pay rises - around £20 per month for PC. It's gonna have a big effect on those on final salary pensions. You can work out approx £380 per year added to current salary equals £1900. So the final salary of PC in 5 years time = £39,200 approx. Whoopeee!.

I've just seen this article on the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-33610801 and George Osborne has told depts. to draw up plans to cut their budgets by 25-40%. Of course policing is not in the protected category. Cuts to this degree on top of what is already to be saved and has been cut already is eye watering. Privatisation and elimination of some services is encouraged apparently. I cannot see how policing can cope with the scale of cuts asked for ??

Whilst one cannot judge purely on the basis of an article in a Sunday newspaper, the possibility that Lord Sewel, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, may have been acting in a manner inconsistent with his position in public life really puts the standards of politicians under the spotlight once more. It is interesting that Lord Sewel immediately resigned - very appropriate as he was the chairman of the standards committee in The Lords! I despair sometimes
