A policeman thought to be one of Britain's longest serving beat officers says it would be a shame to lose neighbourhood policing. PC Barney Barnes, 66, has been on the beat in the Hillfields area of Coventry for 25 years. He said: "It's important for me as a beat officer to get to know my area, get to know the people in my area and for the people to know me.
