A female police officer has been hailed a hero after arresting a suspect who disabled her radio during a violent struggle and prevented her from calling for backup. PC Amanda Henderson was on patrol in Kingston, south-west London, on Sunday, when she and her colleagues saw a stolen VW Golf speeding through the town centre. The car failed to stop for officers and was pursued through several back streets before the driver fled the stolen vehicle. PC Henderson chased the driver and found him hiding in a bin storage area. Residents have long complained of "reckless and aggressive" behaviour by drivers of high-performance cars during the "supercar season" summer months. The council has introduced a "supercar Asbo" to give police new powers to move on suspected noisy or reckless drivers. Those who do not comply face possible arrest and their cars being seized. On Thursday 16 dispersal orders and seven tickets were given out by police to drivers in …

This is the ridiculous woman in the UK called 999 earlier this week with an extremely bizarre emergency and request for police help. Avon and Somerset Police released the strange audio clip - which features a woman asking for help because she cannot find her remote control. The woman also claimed that she was worried about what her neighbours would think about the volume of her TV, which she was unable to change. As the operator answers the call, the woman says: "Hello, yes, - it's not an emergency. "It's just the fact I've lost my remote control for my TV. I know it sounds silly. "I'm going to put my TV on and I have troubles with my next door neighbour and I'm worr…

Dominic Pemberton alleges he was left for "a good hour" before being taken to hospital after the attack by the Greater Manchester Police dog-in-training, outside a Lancashire hotel. The 23-year-old was held on suspicion of going equipped to steal before being de-arrested and taken for treatment. GMP said an inquiry had begun after a dog "unexpectedly detained" a man. Mr Pemberton, whose family has complained to the force, remains in hospital and has undergone two operations since the attack in the car park at the Best Western Park Hall Hotel in Charnock Richa…

Charlie Swann pinched a BMW vehicle from outside an address in Coriander Road in Norris Green, and accelerated away from police who had spotted him on Princess Drive, near Dovecot, on December 19, 2015. The 19-year-old was chased by officers along a number of roads, over a distance of one-and-a-half miles. He reached speeds of between 60-90mph as a patrol car continued to trail him, Liverpool Crown Court heard. Sadiq Khan was involved in awkward exchanges in City Hall today as he was grilled over his decision to sell the Metropolitan Police’s controversial water cannon. The London Mayor was accused of repeating himself as he was asked what conversations he had with Scotland Yard chief Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe before he announced he was selling the devices. The question was put to Mr Khan by Conservative Assembly Member Gareth Bacon who spoke to the Met commissioner moments before. Sir Bernard said he supported the use of water cannon when he was addressed but said it was clear the Mayor did not share his view. When Mr Khan was first asked the question, he began his answer by s…

Essex Police is "lousy" at keeping hold of volunteer special constables, the county's new crime commissioner has claimed. Conservative Roger Hirst, who became the Essex Police and Crime Commissioner in May, said he wanted to double the number of 'specials' from 300 to 600. But he said the force needs to rethink how specials were both treated and deployed. Essex Police said it places high value on the work specials do. In 2014/2015, 119 people left the special constabulary compared with 83 joiners. But in the most recent year - 2015/2016 - the number of leavers was 96 compared with 114 joiners. Mr Hirst said more needed to be done to retain higher numbers of special c…

An oil and gas worker’s stash of child abuse was so horrific that detectives needed counselling. James Kirkley, 54, blamed ‘boredom’ for downloading almost 15,000 indecent photographs and videos, including newborn babies being molested and abuse involving animals. A judge said that Kirkley’s stash was the ‘worst he had seen in 35 years’. ‘One of the images, an officer tells me, and I cannot disagree, is perhaps the worst image that has been seen, such that the officers themselves have had to be referred for counselling,’ said Judge Stephen Earl. ‘They demonstrate some of the worst, if not the worst, in 35 years, that I have seen.’ Kirkley confessed to having a sexual…

Police want to find this woman Police are hunting for a woman who was pictured going to the toilet on a war memorial, on the day Britain marked 100 years since the Battle of the Somme. The monument in Grays, Essex, carried the names of hundreds who died in the First and Second World Wars, and the Korean War. Essex Police want to track down the woman. A worker told the Brentwood Gazette they believed it was a member of a group which had been causing trouble for days. They said: ‘It is unfortunate to hear. They were absolutely p***ed. We have had ambulances and paramedics around here wasting their time. ‘There have been instances where they are laying on the floor. ‘…
