Me and another special (who is just recently IP) were the first on scene at an RTC tonight, we were gridded as nearby and managed to jump on a bus and arrive first. It wasn't serious and no one was hurt, bar a little shock, but I felt like a total tool and didn't feel like I knew what I was doing! Traffic arrived 5 minutes after us, and after racking my brains about what I had learnt in training (which I don't remember being much on the topic at all!) I had just got details of people involved and I felt abit useless. The traffic officers were very helpful, and provided a lot of constructive criticism, but I felt a bit like a fish out of water.. neither of us knew the prot…

Any current WYP Specials able to tell me how long uniform fitting takes?
-
This might sound stupid... I am going to be doing some plain clothes patrol, possibly on foot, and I'm a bit confused. Will I still be wearing my body armour and utility belt? The coats I have are all fitted and won't fit over the vest, what kind of outerwear do people wear? I'm guessing something with pockets to hold PNB, torch etc? I don't know if any female serving officers are on here, but if anyone can enlighten me as to what they've seen being worn (bearing in mind it will be nighttime patrol).. dont even own any joggers or hoodies, I won't blend into the patrol area very well haha!

Have any newly attested specials (within the last 12 months) had any issues with claiming for expenses. I recently attempted to claim my mileage for Jan - July 2013, however as I could only submit the forms in July I have now been told that I am unable to claim for Jan - March as they are last years financial year. I have had to pay out for travelling to training school and I think that I should still be able claim but I have been told other wise. Like wise with claiming for meal breaks, we were not told until the end of June that we could claim for our food (attested in July) but were advised that we would not need the receipts and we would still be reimbursed. Howe…

Hi! Great forum, it's really good to read everyone's experiences! Anyway, I've recently heard I passed the assesment centre to be a special and I'm just waiting for a medical now . But in the meantime I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on training schedules? I work full time hours in the week and my partner works really long hours during the week so we usually only see one another at the weekend. Is there usually an option provided to train during evenings in the week or is it weekends only? Cheers

Hi guys, I've applied to be a special in Leeds I was wondering how long does entire process take? what sort of time frame am I looking? reason I ask for example I want to be in best shape for my medical, i'm pretty fit as it is but I want to work harder and use it as an excuse to push myself. So basically how long is it between stages roughly initial application, interview, fitness medical etc? or how long was it specifically for you and what branch? I just passed the initial application on the website and it says I have to attend to assessment centre at end of January. So what comes after that? Many thanks for any help. Edit: I've also posted this in force specific …

Hello Guys I am currently an SC for SYP and was attested in August i have really enjoyed being an SC where i live which is a vibrant and busy city and i current police the city center of one of the larger cities in south Yorkshire. I am looking at the possibility of transferring to WYP as i study at the university of Bradford. also with traveling and expenses it would be easier to just transfer but i have a few questions before i make up my mind. 1.do specials have the opportunity to do both SNA and Response? 2.what are peoples experiences of being a special in WYP i have other questions but at the moment i just want to get a feel about what people think of WYP as a …

Afternoon all, As a number off officers on here are very seasoned, how do you feel about having an OST refresher once a year? Do you feel that this does assist or would it be beneficial to be doing extra training through out the year to keep open hand/cuffing and baton skills up to speed? Just curious as to how people feel about the current arrangements.

Just thought I would put a post up about something I struggled to find a definitive answer to and after just speaking to the resourcing team I have found there is no fitness test for current applications

This may sound like a silly question but when having 2 current addresses (one at student halls in manchester and one at home in west yorkshire) which should be the current address stated on the application form and which the previous address? And would having a current address in Manchester affect my application?
