Hi, I found out a couple of days ago that I've passed my assessment centre for the Specials, so next up is the medical test! Out of interest (and if you're allowed to of course) could someone tell me what exactly is done during the eye exam? I've been to see my optician a while ago and know I can pass the 6/6 6/24 part of the test, but do WYP also test for things like depth perception? I'm just a bit worried as one of my eyes points outwards (always has) and while it doesn't affect me in day-to-day life I'm a bit worried about it for the eye exam that's all. Thanks!

Hello all, my application to become a police special was accepted and I have the assessment centre stage coming up, I was fully expecting numerical reasoning test to be part of the assessment centre, but in the information I have been sent it makes no mention of one. It informs me the test will consist of one written excise in which I will have to write reports relating to problems at a fictitious shopping centre, a contemplate based interview and a situation judgement test. All his information seems to suggest there is not be a numerical reason test but I find that very surprising. If anyone could shed some light on what I should expect I would be hugely grateful.

Hi all, Ive been having a look through the forums and there seems to be a lot of good info on specific parts of the recruitment process, however im still a bit clueless as to how the process runs and how to begin it. Im currently serving in the Army and im strongly considering a career change to the police force within the next 5 years. Looking back at when i joined the forces it was easy to access information about job roles and the recruitment process online, unfortunetly it seems to be a different story altogether on the WYP website. Im just looking to get a basic understanding of how joining the police works from the very beginning (myself being a complete stranger …

Just wondering if anyone on here has applied for any admin jobs and got through the sift? I have an assessment centre tomorrow which is just computer based from the sounds of things and says if I succeed I will go on for interview. What I'm trying to find out is whether the interview is on the same date and how long it can take to get assessment results if not? I'm sure this will be explained tomorrow but thought was worth an ask.

As the WYP sub-forum has become increasingly busy over the past couple of months, I thought it would be beneficial to have a general chat post--seeing as how there has been a good number of recruitment posts around the various stages we're all at. And this also allows a sub-locker room post for us to chat about things in WY but may not entirely be WYP or recruitment oriented. So, I'll start us off with something non Police-related. What is with this weather we've been having?! On Tuesday, we had sun, rain and snow :S

I've been invited for an assessment with West Yorkshire Police, who want me to bring both my passport and the paper part of my driver's licence with me to the assessment centre. My only problem is I moved house yesterday (literally) and haven't had the chance to update my address on my driver's licence yet. With the assessment being 2 weeks away I'm a bit nervous about sending my licence off to be updated right now, as I don't know whether it'll get back in time to take to the assessment... Is it worth ringing the HR department and explaining or is there no leeway with this sort of thing and I'll just have to send it off an hope for the best? I know it's a legal requireme…

I'm in the process of job hunting at the mo. I'm wanting to still be a special as I'm wanting to get in the regs eventually and am enjoying it, and hoping to find a job within the Criminal Justice sector. I have a CJ 2:1 degree so hopefully that and specials along with uni placements will stand me in good stead. I'm wanting to know what jobs are pointless to apply for if I'm wanting to stay as a special. Obviously PCSO is one, and possibly DO? I've just applied for a court job, but now thinking that that might be a conflict of interest too. If anyone works in the CJ sector and is a special, please let me know how you find doing both roles. Thanks

Just received an email, pending I am successful in the final stages of recruitment, I will be starting my training in May. Has anyone else been sent the email and got the same seminar date (16th April). For those who have already been through the seminar what does it involve?
