Police in Leeds are encouraging more lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to play an important role in helping them to tackle hate crime. A drop-in event is being held at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, in Lower Briggate, between 5pm and 9pm on Wednesday, September 30, to promote the work of the LGBT Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel and to encourage people to get involved. Leeds police hate crime co-ordinators will be on hand to discuss the work of the panel. The panel meets at regular intervals to review how the police have dealt with LGBT hate incidents and looks at where improvements can be made. Wednesday 23 September, 2015 Police in West Yorkshire are supporting a national campaign to warn people of the ‘‘absolute danger’’ of using a mobile phone while driving. Officers from Yorkshire's largest force are using the week-long campaign, which is being led by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), to raise awareness over mobile phone use while driving being one of the 'fatal four' - the name given to the four most common circumstances leading to death on the roads and also including speeding, not wearing a seat belt and drink/drug driving. Thursday, 17 September, 2015 Door staff at a number of late night venues in Huddersfield are being given breathalysers as part of a drive to reduce alcohol-related issues in the town centre. Trained staff will be able to use the hand-held breathalysers on those looking to come in to the venue where there are concerns about the level of alcohol the person has already consumed. The pilot scheme is being launched on Monday (21 September) to coincide with the start of Huddersfield University’s Freshers’ Week. Wednesday 16 September, 2015 Two men have been arrested as part of a pre-planned police operation in Leeds this evening (Wednesday, 16/09). The men, aged 18 and 25, were arrested in Roundhay Road, at around 9pm today on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and are currently in custody. An amount of drugs were seized from the vehicle. The offence was alleged to have occurred down a snicket between Clare Road and Green Lane on the evening of Friday, 14 August. The charges relate to the former Thorp Arch Grange Children’s Home, in Wetherby, in the 1970s and 1980s.
