Monday, 7 December, 2015 Police in Huddersfield recently used a safety arch as part of an event at a local high school to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying a knife. Officers from the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team visited Netherhall Learning Campus last week and delivered an input in to an assembly for around 80 Year 11 students on knife crime and personal safety. The students also walked through a safety arch, which is used to detect weapons, manned by the neighbourhood officers. No weapons were found on any of the students. So-called ‘legal highs’ worth £34,000 that were seized from shops in Leeds have been sent for destruction following a landmark ruling resulting from the city’s ongoing campaign to tackle the issue. West Yorkshire Trading Standards was granted a forfeiture order yesterday by Leeds Magistrates for the destruction of the substances that were seized in a series of raids across the city earlier this year. Thursday, 3 December, 2015 Two teenagers are to appear before magistrates tomorrow morning (Friday, 4 December) charged with committing serious sexual assaults in Huddersfield. The male teenagers, who are aged 16 and 17, will appear before Kirklees Magistrates after being charged in connection with four alleged incidents of rape and attempted rape in the town. The males were arrested late on Wednesday evening in Huddersfield in connection with the offences which were alleged to have occurred between September and November. Wednesday, 2 December, 2015 A fraudster who conned more than £120,000 from vulnerable victims has been told he must face three years behind bars. Gary Johnson, 46, formerly of Ossett, was sentenced to three years imprisonment at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (1 December) after being convicted of three theft and fraud offences in which he deliberately targeted elderly and vulnerable victims. Police are now beginning proceedings to seize Johnson's criminal gains from him following the sentencing. Sunday, 29 November, 2015 Members of the public are being warned that a number of roads have been closed in Bradford town centre following high winds. A section of roof has come off a building in Tyrell Street resulting in that road being closed. A piece of roof has also fallen on the top of a police car in Thornton Road and that road has been closed at Sugden Street. Thursday, 26 November 2015 Police in Bradford are investigating several reports of school aged children being approached in suspicious circumstances by unknown men. The incidents have occurred in the Killinghall Road area of Bradford Moor over the last week. Police are treating these incidents seriously and have increased patrols in the area. They are asking for people, especially parents, to be vigilant.
