Wednesday, 28 October 2015 West Yorkshire Police's Chief Constable will celebrate 100 years of women in policing by launching a special exhibition in Bradford. Temporary Chief Constable Dee Collins will be at the Bradford Police Museum on Friday, 30 October, to launch the collection of memorabilia and photographs, which documents the changes to the role of women in policing over the last century. The exhibition has been organised by the British Association of Women in Policing (BAWP), West Yorkshire Police and the Bradford Police Museum. But some residents will already be feeling anxious about what Halloween night, and next week’s Bonfire Night, will bring. Friday October 23, 2015 Residents are now able to report crime at the touch of a button following the launch of a new online 'one stop crime reporting shop.' West Yorkshire Police have now launched a new Click Before You Call (#ClickB4UCall) portal on the Force website which allows viewers to both report and gain information on a huge range of non-emergency crimes and issues- all from one page! Two people have been charged to appear in court following an investigation into the theft of electrical items from a children's cancer unit at Leeds General Infirmary. Matthew Ingham, aged 37, of Hardwick Street, Keighley, has been charged with five counts of theft. Kim Ager, aged 34, of the same address, has been charged with receiving stolen goods. The charges relate to the theft of laptop computers and other items from the unit in July this year. They are due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court on Wednesday, November 18. Tuesday October 20, 2015 Police are to give residents top tips of how to better protect themselves from cyber criminals in a webchat this week. West Yorkshire Police are to host the one hour cyber-crime web chat from 7pm on Wednesday October 21st. Force Cyber-crime lead Detective Inspector Vanessa Smith and Crime Prevention Officer Chris Joyce will both be available to speak on line and answer queries. Tuesday, 20th October, 2015 A man responsible for the brutal rape of a woman in Leeds has been given a 20 year sentence after being tracked down in a three-month manhunt led by West Yorkshire detectives. Zdenko Turtak, aged 22, from Slovakia, was extradited back to the UK to face justice after officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) liaised with authorities in his home country to match his DNA to the attacker’s profile. Today at Leeds Crown Court he was given a 14 year custodial sentence and a six year extended licence. Ground-breaking scientific techniques have helped West Yorkshire Police put a vicious sex attacker behind bars – more than thirty years after he committed the crime. In August 1984, a man broke into a flat in Wakefield where a 25-year-old woman and her baby son were sleeping. The intruder violently attacked the woman and attempted to rape her. During the assault, she was stabbed in the chest by her attacker before managing to escape to safety with her child. The Major Incident Review Team began reviewing this case last year.
