I am going to be wearing contact lenses whilst in uniform but it occurred to me that I may find the need one day to wear my specs (unlikely but possible). I was wondering whether my specs may not be allowed because the lens on them change colour in the sun (they darken - photo-chromatic I thinks its called!!) Anyone know what the script is on such specs within L&B and whether they will be acceptable/tolerated?? Ideally I don't really want to have to by a new pair as a just-in-case pair!

So after 3 years since being attested, I'm finally able to go on the training weekend and I'm a little nervous about it... Any tips for a first timer? Who's all going too? Rachel x

Hi there, I remember from my familirisation evening that in your first week at Fettes there's an event where you're sworn in and you're welcome to invite your family. My family live in southern England and so it's a bit of a treck for them to come up for this. Is this a big event? If it is I'm going to ask them to come. Also, is there any similar kind of event/passing out parade/graduation from Tulliallan and is that more the kind of thing that family members might want to come and see. Cheers in advance, Chris

Hi folks, Dont want to be one of those recruits who is reported to Division for poor fitness so looking for advice on PE at Tulli. I am quite worried about it, passed the initial fitness ok although I will admit I found the run hard, had I been in the Gym I would have stopped with about a third to go, the desire to get in took me around the last lap. I know there will be runs etc at Tulli, but can anyone detail specifcally what is required physically during Basic training so I can be a little more prepared. Rather than always doing 1.5 mile runs I have just been going to the Gym, running slower for longer, getting more used to running distance in general hoping this w…

Having spoken with a good few active specials now, there seems to be quite a difference in what they get up to. I've read posts in another thread in another section of the forum regarding what people are getting up to but I'd be keen to hear from those in Strathclyde in particular. All going to plan, I'll be working in the Giffnock station which by force standards, is probably quiter than most. I'm just wondering what I can realistically expect to get up to as a compol special when I turn up for duty (particularly if the station is of the quiter variety). On another note, Officer Safety Equipment aside, what else will I have on my person? I think I'm right in saying you…

Just wondering, does anyone else have their sticky braille label to go on their warrant card yet? I thought they were a brill idea, however now I've found out what they say i'm a little disappointed, and am not sure how much of a purpose they will serve? Curious as to what the rest of you make of them :D

How did today's session go for you all? Personally I thought it was ok. The trainer was nice and I picked up some things I didn't know too much about. It was also useful to build upon some of the background reading in a class setting. I would have liked to have seen more of the content being delivered in the context of policing which I think could have been developed further. That said, I think that is the angle the trainer will pursue in two week's time. Looking forward to next week's dvds as this week's was pretty good - disturbing to see children so young voice such views but I thought the teacher tackled the issue well and it was good to see how this impacted posit…

Absolutely love this show, obviously it doesnt show a true representation of the job, i guess filming the paperwork etc would not make for such compelling viewing. Having said that the inspector who features from lothian and borders is a bit of a cool customer, wouldn't mind having a tutor like that when i get out and about. I used to think nightshifts would possibly be quite bad, but they seem to be a bit more interesting than i had expected.

Hi Everyone, How I missed this website - I dont know! Seems busier than other forum's I have come across..! As per header - I have my final this Monday coming.. Just looking for a wee head's up on what I may come across? Other forums I have seen, threads were dated '05 and people's interviews seemed slightly different as to what I think I am going to come across this time?? My Initial Interview lasted well over an hour and we covered everything from me, to what I knew about the force (Im from Inverness), to views and opinions and A Division (adopted division) initiatives... How much different can my Final Interview be..?! And advice or help would be much appreciated.…

Can anyone please assist me with a new unmarked copy of the Human Rights Workbook. My name is Stuart and I was a met officer for 31yrs and I am now a college lectuer specialising in Public Services and this book would prove a very beneficial learning tool for my students. Please reply direct to stu.it@ntlworld.com if you can assist. I specialised in training new recruits and Specials in the Met and if I can be of any assistance I would be more than willing to help. Stuart.
