I have just sent in my vetting form and I can see one potential problem, I have 6 defaults on my credit file. This came about due to spiraling student debt before I got my job and I eventually had to face up to how bad it'd gotten, I contacted a debt help charity and they arranged a debt management plan where I pay lower monthly payments to my creditors. I have written in the comments section that I am handling my finances since the plan came into effect and that I have experienced no further difficulties since. Will it be enough to demonstrate to the vetting people that I am taking steps to rectify the debt and that I'm not in any trouble or not? (I realize no one othe…

So I heard a couple of things from various sources on the grapevine over the last few weeks: 1) That Specials numbers in Hampshire will be cut from the current 650 to 318. Not sure where that exact number comes from but that's what I've heard. I understand that we're having quite a high turnover for the experienced specials going to various forces as a PC as well as other reasons but I can't help thinking that perhaps there needs to be more incentive for experienced SCs to stay. Which brings me on to rumour 2) Specials are going to be put back on SNT. As someone who has worked TPT for around 2 years now, this would upset me greatly. I work with a good team and that'…

All specials should have got this update and I must admit, it's really nice and reassuring to be kept in the loop. It looks like there might be some mixing up of Specials when the new district model comes into force in October. The regs have had to reapply for their postings and it looks like some of us may get moved to better align with the changes in the regs. Where we end up (both geographically and SNT/TPT) depends on where you live, the strand you are currently working in and where tutors are. C/Supt Powell also says that he envisages very little change here which is reassuring considering that I really would prefer not to move stations. The email goes on to say…

HI everyone. As part of the relatively new Hampshire Volunteer Police Cadet scheme, we are moving from two pilot units in Southampton to 7 more units across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This has been a huge undertaking for all involved, however to make this a success we need to raise funds for the new units. We currently do not charge our cadets to attend any of the sessions or for their uniform. We believe that this makes the scheme as inclusive for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds as we can make it. We believe that everyone deserves a chance, no matter what background they are from. However, whilst we believe this stance is the right one, it comes…

Hey all, Im thinking of putting my application in to do both my van course and my compliant stop. I know that the driving standards changed recently and i was wondering if there is anyone who has done it can give me a bit of first hand views/opinions on the course and how they found it for both courses. I only have transits at my station so can't do anything bigger than that as i don't have cat D1 on my licence. Ive not been on the road very long, i only passed my driving test a few months ago so I'm just pondering if i should leave it a bit or whether as the standard of driving is still test standard for me...i would be ok to do the course(s) or if i should wait a bit.…

Evening All, So I'm about to start my training as a Special and understand that boots/shoes are not issued as part of the kit. I'm looking to get a pair of boots and am wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with either of the following: (Please note, I'm not looking to spend the earth on a pair just yet - I'm happy to down the line, but not yet) - Amblers 8" Tactical with Side Zip & Steel Toe Caps or - Responder RF/1 Tactical Patrol Boot with Side Zip If anyone else has any suggestions please feel free to let me know, however I'm not really looking to spend more than about £50 inc P&P and I quite like the idea…
