Use Of Force Crests As Avatars

Use of force crests as avatars Unless you have express written permission form the force in question we are not able to use any force logos, crests or insignias in any back ground pictures or as avatars etc.  If you do get written permission from a force then we will need to see a copy of that. This isn't me being a killjoy as we have in fact in the past been asked to remove them by forces, it is their property and they are protecting it.  If any forces want to come on board with us that will

Tapatalk Beta Release

Folks I know some of you used tapatalk quite a lot prior to the upgrade and are wanting it back asap. We want it back for all of you too and with this in mind I have decided to install the BETA release of the tapatalk plugin. Tapatalk will again work on this site but please be mindful certain aspects will be broken, it is a beta and not final release. Any bugs with tapatalk are not a fault on our side, they are purely an issue with the plugin. As tapatalk release updates to the beta to correct

What else can we add?

What else can we add?  Could there possibly be anything else to add? It's just a mere two weeks since we upgraded the site, originally it was going to be this weekend but wanting to be the best and most up to date UK Police related site we grasped an opportunity to upgrade sooner. The upgrade wasn't without it's hiccups but nothing we couldn't cope with and everything should be working now.  We are so confident with the site and the new platform that we are adding things all the time, some of

Instant Notifications

Most users across the site will rely on notifications to help to keep them up to date and informed on new content that has perhaps been posted in response to their own thread, or if a post has been liked etc. The downside to notifications was that they are only checked for new notifications on each page load. We have now introduced Instant Notifications. This means that when you receive a notification it will instantly show without you needing to reload the page. This of course is particularly u

Profile Photo - Required For All Users

Here on Police Community we are constantly looking to improve the look and feel of the website, one of the most visual aspects of the forum is profile images and it is for this reason that we no longer wish to allow users to not have a profile image.  With immediate effect we are asking all users to add a profile image, of course this does not need to be an image of you personally, it needs to be a profile image that you choose but it can be of anything appropriate.  Users who do not currently

Better and better

So we go from strength to strength.  First we had an absolutely terrific start and now at only 6 months in we've already upgraded to the latest available forum software.  It's an ongoing thing simply because this upgrade isn't just some updated software on top of the old one but a completely new set.  A huge amount of work has been ongoing for a while to plan for this and the go live day was frenetic work for a number of us to ensure we could get it up and running as quickly as possible but with

VIP Features - Member Moods, Emoticons & Enhanced Editor

Our VIP members are very important to the continued success of Police Community. Without that contribution to our online home we would not be able to keep this place going in the same way. As a result we are keen to demonstrate how we are striving to make your use of the forum much improved on a standard user account so that you feel you are rewarded for your contribution to Police Community. We have introduced a number of unique VIP only features and there are more to come .... Member Moods

Feature Requests & Bug Tracker

As a result of the upgrade of the forum and to provide a platform moving forward we have now developed a Bug Tracker and Feature Request section on our website. All members can post in these and they provide one central repository to ensure nothing gets missed. Bug Tracker As with any upgrade and moving forward any software platform, there is always a risk that things behave in a way that is not intended. Errors will no doubt always be present and this is where the Bug Tracker comes in. Simply

Cheetah Has Been Promoted

Over the last 6 months since the introduction of Police Community it has been a busy time and one which has needed all hands to the pumps. In reality all of the Moderation Team have helped myself and @Chief Rat extensively however one Moderator has stepped up to the plate and has really committed a significant amount of his own personal time to devote to the forum and help it grow. He has been the first to offer his services to take on additional responsibilities. Running a community as active a

Mentions

One of the new features available to all members is to use the mentions facility when you want to alert another member to your post. It really is as simple as typing there name proceeded by the @ symbol. If I wanted to alert Chief Rat to this thread then I would simply type @Chief Rat and he will receive a notification that he has been mentioned in a post. This feature is available to all members site wide and will hopefully become part of the way in which you will use Police Community.

Member of The Month

We have decided to have a new award on the forum entitled Member of the Month You may be asking how you win this, well this is a secret. It is a voted decision by the moderators based on your posting history, how many likes you've received and any reports we've received from our members. The figures we use are for the previous Month so for instance although you may appear as January's member of the month it is based on your forum history for December. You don't need to be the highes

What's not to like?

What's not to like about this place? It is but just a few months old and almost un-discernible from from how it looked on 31st October 2014. With this latest addition, the blogs section, we once again have something that our competitors don't have. We have the membership, we have the Admin and mod team to support the forum and we have the desire to see it improve constantly. It's not been without its trials. We've had a few stumbling blocks and some things simply haven't worked. D

Tagging Topics

Some of you may have already noticed that when you start a new thread you are now required to add at least two tags. You can add more should you wish (200 is the maximum) but you will need to add at least two. Why have we done this? We've done this to help the forum make connections and to help with the indexing of subjects. If somebody comes to the site looking for some information then even if they make their search quite vague it will bring up all relevant topics we have, this shoul
