AN INTERNATIONAL athlete, police officers and prisoners helped coach youngsters at the two-day launch of an initiative to cut down youth offending. Twenty-one London boroughs have already embraced the Met-Track scheme, run by the British Athletic Charitable Trust and the Metropolitan Police, which rolled into Hammersmith and Fulham last week Its aims to offer sport as a healthy alternative to anti-social behaviour and a life of crime. Hundreds of teenagers took part in the event at Linford Christie Stadium, in Du Cane Road, last Wednesday (30/3) and Thursday (31/3) and received sports coaching from Commonweatlh gold medallist hurdler Andy Turner. They were also give…

More evidence that the Daily Mail is written by a bunch of idiots (if any was needed). They are talking about in 40 years time, if we are still driving petrol/diesel cars by then something has gone very wrong. In truth we'll probably mostly be shifting to electric/hybrid in the next 15-20 years anyways. If you just look at how much transport tech has changed over the last 100 years, and it's changed faster in recent years, you'll see that the idea that we'll still be using the same fuel in 40 years is insane. edit - forgot link http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1370955/EU-ban-cars-cities-2050-force-drivers-green.html

Haulage magnate Edward Stobart dies, aged 56 Haulage magnate Edward Stobart, who built up the Eddie Stobart lorry empire and ran it for more than 30 years, has died at the age of 56. He suffered what were described as "heart problems" on Wednesday and died this morning in hospital in Coventry. He took the business started by his father Eddie and built it into the best known haulage company in the UK. Mr Stobart sold the firm to his brother William and business partner Andrew Tinkler in 2004. The business began as a local company delivering fertiliser, and in the early days drivers wore collars and ties, which was unusual at the time. They were also instructed to w…

Just heard this story on my local news, MP John Baron has suggested switching all traffic lights to flashing amber during off-peak hours to stop drivers sitting needlessly at a red light when there isn't another car on the road for miles around (we've all been there I'm sure) I have experienced flashing amber lights when driving in Australia, and after an initial moment of sheer terror, I understood what was going on and proceeded with caution. What do you think, is the average driver in the UK intelligent enough to use their own brain and not rely on coloured lights to tell them if it is safe to proceed? Here is the idea; Link

Spurned nonagenarian lets rip with semi-automatic A 92-year-old Florida woman refused a kiss by her 53-year-old neighbour responded by pumping four rounds from a semi-automatic pistol into his house. Helen Staudinger (pictured) of Fort McCoy took a bit of a shine to Dwight Bettner after he moved into a rented pad six months ago. He said: "I've taken her trash out for her, just neighborly stuff. I guess she just took that as something else." The former law enforcement officer and boilermaker told Marion County Sheriff's deputies that Staudinger had previously threatened to shoot him when he told her he had a girlfriend. She "didn't follow through" on that occasion, b…

Lately I've been seeing quite a few number plates in the format "XYZ 1234". I'd never seen these before until very recently and have seen quite a few now. Anyone have any idea what they're for or how long they've been around for? I thought they might just be personalised but the DVLA website for personalised plates doesn't give an option for a reg of this format.

The long dark shadow of the Deepcut deaths has raised it's head again. Not that is was never going to go away, but questions have been raised again. according to a newly-released report seen by the BBC. Surrey Police officers failed to follow vital leads during the investigation into the deaths of four young soldiers at Deepcut Barracks. One retired Chief Inspector claimed that there was pressure from senior officers to conclude that the deaths were suicides. Personally I think the whole thing stinks to high heaven, and that has nothing to do with the Surrey investigation.I hope one day the families seek the truth and closure. I remember reading sometime back when an Mo…

"Petrol prices could soar to £2 a litre if the instability in Libya and neighbouring countries escalates, a Government minister has warned. Alan Duncan, a former oil trader, suggested the price of crude could top 200 dollars a barrel - significantly above the current record of 147 dollars a barrel from July 2008. In a worst-case scenario where terrorists exploit the turmoil in the Gulf to bomb tankers and reserves, the price could even nudge 250 dollars, which would leave UK motorists paying some £2.03 at the pumps. Government minister Alan Duncan, a former oil trader, suggested the price of crude could top 200 dollars a barrel - significantly above the current recor…

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/more-british-bobbies-bound-for-sa-as-local-recruits-dry-up/story-e6frea6u-1226020377115 In case you missed out last time, now's the chance to come over here. If you were wondering why you'd want to come here? We've just been offered (and in the process of accepting) a pay increase, which works out to be on average 17% over three years, plus it is being back-paid to 1/7/2010. Most allowances were increased, none were cut or removed. No one is screwing with our pension. Australia as a whole rode the Financial Crisis out rather well, due to Australia not investing heavily in Iceland and China still buying the stuff we're digging out of the…

Thought I'd share this, pretty powerful stuff: There are no words to describe what you're about to see. It's all about HIM! A Son asked his father, "Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?" The father who, despite having a heart condition, says "Yes". They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons. The father always saying "Yes" to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his fater, "Dad, let's join the Ironman together." To which, his father said "Yes". For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3…

Simon Rogers, 29, of Northamptonshire, admitted stealing medals from comrades fighting in Afghanistan and possessing weapons including hand-fired rockets. Judge Richard Bray adjourned sentencing at Northampton Crown Court for reports and released Rogers on bail. The Ministry of Defence discovered the thef…

Source CLICKYThe way in which Mruke was treated was abhorrently cruel. I initially feel that Khan should have been sent to prison for taking advantage of Mruke but I believe and understand the Judges reasons for sparing her from serving a custodial sentence.
