Terrorists could use a "blended attack" to simultaneously hit physical targets and cyber systems during the London Olympic Games, a security expert has warned. Cyber security expert professor Peter Sommer of the London School of Economics warned that computer security would be extremely important during the Games. "There is what's called a 'blended attack', so there is a physical attack but it's made easier because someone is disrupting cyber systems at the same time, so that is the sort of scenario that people have got to worry about," he said. Cyber security attacks are just one of the issues the man in charge of Olympic Security, assistant commissioner Chris Allison…

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8237923 I do love living in this country, sometimes. Long story short, a guy from the UK who came to Australia when he was 6 years old and who is a habitual criminal, but, not a citizen of Australia, is being deported back to the UK. And you're welcome to him. His lawyer says... "This is really in breach of his human rights. It's a country he grew up in, it's a country which his family all lived in and it's a country he identifies with and has for the last 41 years." Just think... Being deported to the UK is a breach of human rights if you're a criminal, like being deported from the UK is. You guys just can't win.

I was watching Crimewatch last night which featured the case of a young girl who had been raped in Sheffield. Detectives have a DNA profile of the suspect but have been reduced to asking local men to be tested voluntarily to be eliminated as suspects! In my opinion, it is unlikely the offender will come forward. I then thought, why isn't the whole population on the National DNA Database? The UK already has the largest DNA database in the world proportionally with 5-6% of the population (around 3.1 million people) compared to 0.5% in the USA. The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that we cannot hold the DNA of those not convicted indefinately so that probably scup…

I have just recently applied to join the specials (at the Mighty Met) and am awaiting my day 1 and day 2 assessments. Just wondering what sort of day jobs people do which fits in nicely with being a special? Any companies more flexible with hiring people who work as Specials etc? Are some jobs easier than others when juggling it with being a Special?

Well deserved!!! hard as nails those lads from Nepal Edit: It's the CGC, not the CGM...Opps A Gurkha who single-handedly fought off an attack by at least a dozen Taliban insurgents has been awarded Britain's second highest medal for bravery. Acting Sergeant Dipprasad Pun used up all of his ammunition and resorted to using his machine gun tripod to repel the attack in Afghanistan in September. Pun was on sentry duty at a checkpoint near Babaji, in Afghanistan's Helmand province, on 17 September last year when he spotted insurgents trying to plant a bomb beside the front gate. Moments later, militants opened fire on the compound from all sides. For more than a quar…

An Air France plane carrying at least 228 people from Brazil has disappeared from radar screens over the Atlantic. Paris Charles de Gaulle airport said contact was lost with the flight from Rio de Janeiro at 0600 GMT. Brazil's air force confirmed the disappearance.
