They are a revealing insight into an innocent abuse of power together with the allure of celebrity. When traffic policeman Roy Garrett patrolled Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard during the 50s and 60s on his Harley Davidson motorbike he would regularly pull over the great and good of the movie world. However, despite his ability to track down stars flouting the rules of the road, he was less keen to penalise them. Fan: Traffic policeman Roy Garrett would take signed photographs of Hollywood stars in exchange for letting them off speeding tickets. 'Thanks for keeping me out of the clink' wrote a grateful Marilyn Monroe, pictured Friend of the stars: Beverly Hills police…

Great news story, A man in Manchester had apparently simply had it with his phone. Maybe he lost signal for the umpteenth time, or maybe he’d just had a horrendously massive bill land on his doormat. Either way, he took it out on T-mobile shop, wrecking the place in full view of everyone. i'm guessing arrested for Criminal Damage

A paramedic wrongly turned on his blue flashing lights to pull over a woman – to tell her off for bad driving, a disciplinary hearing in Cardiff was told today. Uniformed ambulanceman Shaun Foster, 38, is accused of misusing the emergency lights to stop the woman driver for “cutting him up”. Motorist Jennifer Singleton quickly pulled over because she thought it was an ambulance service vehicle trying to get to a 999 call. But the Health Professions Council hearing was told Mrs Singleton was shocked when furious Foster didn't zoom past on a medical emergency. Instead he pulled up behind her, jumped of his vehicle and began ticking her off about her driving. Foster tol…

Heard on the news the this morning that today is the 75th birthday of the 999 telephone number coming into service. Does anyone know (and David, you might remember this ) what number did you ring before this happened. Did you just ring the operator??

I'm being trained up for a Security Role at 2012 with G4S this summer but today I noticed my Olympic Accreditation hasn't gone through because my SC isn't back yet but standard vetting is fine. Now I hear G4S do SC checks. Presumably similar to the ones we use for the Police Force What do SC checks entail? Credit searches? And how long must they take? I just want reassurance as the long wait is so annoying. I can't be deployed to the games without it.....not to mention that G4S has a backlog of things!!!

I live in a small village, this morning I heard sirens which sounded like they were coming from the village centre. They seemed to go on for a long time, as if the vehicle was going really slowly. The sirens then stop, then I look out my window a few seconds later and see a police car with flashing blue lights coming up my street. It stops two doors down from my house, they knocks on the door. The strange thing is, is that they left a minute later and left the street. Then five minutes later they come back, the person answers the door this time. After a while of the officers in the house, I then notice a second police car exiting my street. At the start I thought they co…

I'm not a football fan although I will watch the big games such as England matches. But given huge concerns over racism and other problematic behaviour, what amazes me is how Ukraine were ever able to host Euro 2012. However were they awarded the honour? Following on from that I find out Rio Ferdinand wasn't selected. Well I know nothing about football but though there were and are all sorts of excuses being given, is it because he is black and this was a deliberate decision by the England manager?

Found this nugget on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18603360 A charity is launching the first study of sex in British prisons. The Howard League for Penal Reform says it will spend two years looking at all elements of the issue, from consensual to coercive sex in jails. The investigation in England and Wales will also look at what can be done to improve the sex education of adolescent and teenage inmates. The UK has a ban on conjugal visits for prisoners - although more than half of European countries allow them. There is virtually no reliable information about the extent of consensual and coercive sex in jails, although ministers recently told Parliam…
