Violent protests have continued across the Middle East in response to an American amateur film seen as insulting to Islam despite an appeal for calm by some Arab leaders. Crowds have attacked and attempted to storm the British, German and American embassies in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. There have also been demonstrations in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Libya, Lebanon, Gaza, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, India and Indonesia. The BBC's Jeremy Bowen reports from Cairo. http://www.bbc.co.uk...e-east-19595854 This has escalated hugely! Take my next comment with a pinch of salt, but there are some definite parallels with the way the riots started across England (and indee…

First it was the shooting of David Rathband in 2010, then the murder of Ian Dibell in July, now the killings of Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone this week. My perception is that its getting more dangerous.

Birmingham Airport's runway has been shut after a plane skidded off it. Airport officials said the Monarch flight ZB467 from Nice in France skidded off the runway shortly after 13:10 BST. The airport said the flight had been operated by Lithuanian company Aurela Airlines. There were not thought to be any injuries. The airport said all flights were suspended and "airfield services" were assisting the airline crew. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk...ingham-19676990

I've just been walking the dog and saw someone else in the field on a quadbike or similar with a red light scanning the fields and boundaries. When the light came near me I ducked behind a hedge but a few minutes later I heard what was definitely gunfire so I literally ran away. I'm just wondering if a farmer is allowed to use a firearm without giving any warning to the people who might be using the public footpaths running through the fields?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19604535 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have launched legal action against the French magazine Closer over its publication of topless pictures of the duchess, Clarence House has said. The celebrity gossip magazine printed pictures of the duchess taken during the couple's private holiday in France. A royal spokesman said the legal proceedings had been launched in France and were for breach of privacy. Closer's editor said the couple were "visible from the street". "These photos are not in the least shocking. They show a young woman sunbathing topless, like the millions of women you see on beaches," said Laurence Pieau. She described th…

I'm on my mobile so cant post the content but the link is here http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19630617 Essentially 3 offenders have gone through the UK courts then all the way up to ECHR because whilst on indeterminate sentances for public protection (IPPs) they were unable to attend rehabilitation courses that would have helped them at IPP hearings and be released. As a result the ECHR have ruled that IPPs breach their subjects human rights and are unlawful. There are nearly 6000 prisoners on IPPs Of those roughly 3500 have served the minimum tariff set by the judges and this ruling now means that, subject to the ruling being appealed or not, they may have to be paid c…

Article in the Guardian: I won't post the whole article as it's quite long and bitty - http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/sep/14/do-britons-feel-rich-poor It's a pretty lazy article to be honest, but does go to show how wealth is rather relative and how people's perceptions are rather different. If you're living at home with mum and dad earning £25k then you are really rather well-off, if you are earning the same, paying a mortgage and paying for full-time child care you are almost certainly "poor".

http://www.bbc.co.uk...gazine-19562101 Police are investigating whether a man found dead on a west London street was a stowaway who fell from a plane. Just how often does this happen? No-one saw the body fall from the sky on to Portman Avenue. A few neighbours thought they heard something, a thud or a loud bang. But not a soul was around to witness a man hit the pavement of this quiet residential street in Mortlake, south-west London, early on a bright September Sunday. Police say the death is being treated as unexplained. But early media reports all shared the same assumption - that he had stowed away in the landing gear of a plane flying to Heathrow, less than 10 mi…
