My first response to this ridiculous suggestion is the rather polite phrase of "BORE OFF!". It cost me £10 to park in Liverpool yesterday to do my University work. Firstly, NICE, don't pretend that you are trying to 'help' us become fitter when really it's just another government excuse to hike up parking costs. Secondly, my driving has absolutely no influence over my physical activity (which for the record, is high) whatsoever so if you claim your interest in helping us be fitter is genuine I really think that's a ridiculous idea. And as for telling people not to use their cars to go to work, hold on, what about people commuting to different cities? Ok, none of NICE c…

"For many years, Australia's safety campaign adverts have tried to shock people into quitting unsafe habits or behaviour - from smoking to drink-driving. But now a train company, Metro Trains Melbourne, has gone with a different approach with its message on rail safety, releasing a cartoon song called 'Dumb Ways to Die'. Duncan Kennedy reports from Sydney." From BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk...siness-20506255 Click Link to watch video. Anyone got thoughts as to whether a similar campaign might work over here?

Germany's ruling coalition is calling for a ban on bestiality - or the practice of having sex with animals. The German parliament's agriculture committee is considering making it an offence not only to hurt an animal but also to force it into unnatural sex. Offenders could face a hefty fine. A final vote will be held in the Bundestag (lower house) on 14 December. Germany legalised bestiality (zoophilia) in 1969, except when the animal suffered "significant harm". But animal rights groups have campaigned for a change in the law and Hans-Michael Goldmann, the head of the parliamentary committee investigating the new amendment, told the Tageszeitung newspaper that the ne…

Is it "child abuse" to allow same-sex couples to adopt? A Ukip parliamentary candidate thinks so. Winston McKenzie, the party's culture, media and sport spokesman who is standing in the Croydon North by-election on Thursday, told the Metro newspaper: "To say to a child, 'I am having you adopted by two men who kiss regularly but don’t worry about it' – that is abuse. It is a violation of a child’s human rights because that child has no opportunity to grow up under normal circumstances. A caring loving home is a heterosexual or single family. I don't believe [a gay couple] is healthy for a child." He expanded on the point in the Croydon Advertiser. "If you couldn't …

Jurors who conduct online research on cases they are trying may need to be prosecuted under a new criminal offence, the Law Commission proposes in a consultation. Courts could also be armed with additional powers compelling media organisations to take down old stories from electronic archives in order to remove potentially prejudicial material. The Law Commission's suggestions, involving stricter controls over the use of the internet and introducing ambitious efforts to police online content, are intended to reduce the risk of contempt of court and protect a defendant's right to a fair trial. Confiscating jurors' mobile phones and internet-enabled devices when they att…

Richard O'Dwyer, the university student who created the TVShack website which linked to TV shows and films online for free, has reached an agreement to avoid extradition to the US over copyright infringement allegations, the high court has been told. The 24-year-old Sheffield Hallam undergraduate has signed a draft "deferred prosecution" agreement in the past two days which requires him to travel to the US and pay a small sum of compensation but will mean he will not face a trial or criminal record, the court was told. Sir John Thomas, president of the Queen's Bench Division and the third most senior judge in England and Wales, said the deal was a "very satisfactory outc…

With all the news of UKIP and an in-out EU referendum in the news recently, it is highly possible that in the years to come we could have a possible referendum on the future of the UK in the EU. What are your views on the EU? I have started a poll to gather what people's opinions are. Personally not a fan; expensive, depletes national sovereignty and a law for example, that works in one country, may not work in another! That's my view.

A four-week-old boy "bled to death" after a home circumcision carried out by a nurse, a court has heard. Goodluck Caubergs died the day after nurse Grace Adeleye carried out the procedure without anaesthetic, Manchester Crown Court was told. The jury heard the 66-year-old only used scissors, forceps and olive oil at an address in Chadderton, Greater Manchester in April 2010. Mrs Adeleye denies manslaughter by gross negligence. The court heard the medic and Goodluck's parents are originally from Nigeria, where the circumcision of newborns is the tradition for Christian families. 'Dangers ignored' Mrs Adeleye, of Sarnia Court, Salford, was paid £100 to do the operati…

How disgusting is this? It's sending out the message that the UKIP, a perfectly legitimate party gaining popularity, is somehow insidious and evil (though I know the BNP is still a legitimate party but let's not go there. That's a different matter). It's also removing children in need of loving care and a warm home are being denied it. Just what lunatics are running the asylum here? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20474120
