Hi I'm with Specials since November last year.I'm originaly from Poland and moved to England few years ago. My Polish from obvious reason is fluent. My question is then. I was called off duty by the officer from my Police Station asking who stopped Polish guy with limited English and asked me if I can translate few questions he wanted to asked. I agreed and we translated everything ok guy was coutioned and I transated it into Polish then he was asked few questions and let go. In case he was arrested, would it be lawfull aresst and his answears would be taken into acount in the Court or could he cialm that due to the fact I'm not register as a interpreter with Police F…

Not sure if this should be in 'In the law' or here. But here goes. Driving to work the other day I seen a car take a shortcut in order to avoid a set of red traffic lights. I have seen this happen before but this guy nearly caused an accident while performing the manoevure. You are sat at a red set of lights with a filter lane to your left which is on green. Instead of waiting someone uses the filter lane to turn left but instead cuts across the junction and goes straight on. I have attached a paint shop pic to show this better. Now, I could understand using the filter lane, going down the road a bit and doing a 3 point turn in light traffic, travelling back along and…

Just a quick one to run past you all for some feedback and what you'd do next You stop a car with number plates that don’t conform to standards. Have a chat with the owner and issue a VDRS, this is then stamped by a test centre and sent back to the police to say that the correct style of plate is on the car. Several weeks later you see the car again with the incorrect plates, you pull it over and the same person is driving. You issue another VDRS and FPN. Another few weeks later you pass this same vehicle with the incorrect plates again after the VDRS and FPN have been paid and returned to say that the correct plates are on the car. What would you do at this point? It…

This is a scenario based on a local story which has happened recently. Person A is at the top of a multi story car park threatening to jump off, ambo, police and relevant people are at scene in talks with the person. The road is shut during the negotiation and several people stop to watch the drama (heaven knows why). Most onlookers are distressed at what may happen but still continue to watch all the same. Amongst the disressed onlookers are a few locally kown persons who are shouting 'Jump' and 'Get on with it' You can even see one fimling the scene on a mobile phone. Most of the other onlookers look at the few in disbelief at what they are shouting. What offences ar…

What would you do, if out on patrol you came across this? (Skip to 1:10, some strong language, you may want to watch with the volume off) I'd be tempted to go with S.59 RTA and follow up with enquieries RE: Insurance / MOT / licence etc. How would you play it?

Hey Guys Last Friday when i was coming back on the train after work at the M.E.N. Arena along with lots of other people. There was a certain gentleman... and i use that term loosly.... who was complaining about this couple for taking his seat, from what i gathered. This guy was going on about how they treated him like garbage and that he was going to set the girls hair a light and severly beat the guy up. He even went on to say that he is going to stab them multiple times..! Me being a steward at the M.E.N. arena i'm always interacting with different kinds of people and observing any forms of disordely conduct... i'm not too sure why i did what i did... But i approache…

unfortunately biggie is i forgot the numberplate. (unless it comes back) anyways, basically i was wondering after some very idiotic driving nearly seen me under a car. approaching a curve on a bank which gets greasy on wet days so took it at caution (15/20mph in 30) two lanes left to go left and the right for right and straight on. Was overtook in the right lane then the driver forced his way in from of me, almost edging me into him. i did initially memorize the VRM but it then escaped me. :D anyways i was thinking, if i was witness to that type of unacceptable driving which made me have to break sharply too, is there anything that can be done? Just wondering as …

A question has come up after a discussion at work. If someone is drunk, at what stage could they be charged with being drunk in charge (or similar, sorry, I'm still in the application stage at the moment so don't know the proper definition)? Is it when the engine is on, when the keys are in the ignition, when the keys are in possession of someone in the car, or is it something else?

You arrest a MOP the day before, who was giving verbal abuse along the lines of ... "if i ever see you again". You finished duty. and the MOP turns up by chance at the place you work. What would you do? Hide? Justify your reason of the arrest? Curl up in a ball and ask for back up?

Situation for you: If you were off duty and were monitoring the local channel and heard a call for assistance that was close to you, but the nearest on duty unit was going to take 10 - 15 mins to get there, could you attend and back up the officer calling for assistance if you were an ''off duty'' special? - if so, would you need to do anything when responding, e.g. call up on the radio, put ''POLICE'' marked clothing on? Thanks,

Don't want to bring up another 'off duty' thread but I really have no idea about this one. Can you still execute a sec 23 search (or any search for that matter) while; off duty, out your own force area and with no stop/search forms?

What offence is someone commiting if they borrow someone elses ID to gain entry to a nightclub? What charges can they expect? What if they didn't have permission to borrow it? What offence is the person lending them their ID commiting? Would they get their ID back? Would they be charged with anything?

I was thinking of this one just now as my road has finally been cleared: You are on duty, weather reports have said, a clear night with temperatures of around -6 all night, warning for icy roads. you catch a bunch of youths throwing buckets of water over the paths and roads on a street what would happen if a) you caught them doing this. just placing water on the thoroughfare b) an accident (slip, slide or crash) occurred as a result of their actions.

Hi all, Just thought I'd tap into the wealth of knowledge on here to try and find the most suitable offence for the following scenario. It involves an RTC where the driver abandoned the vehicle before police arrived, the vehicle isn't registered and there is no insurance. There are some forensic leads to identify the driver and the V5 given to the current keeper was found whilst searching it. The details of the current keeper on the V5 are false, as are the details given to the previous keeper. I have initially thought of fraud, as there has been a false representation made. But I find it difficult to prove the intent to make a gain or cause a loss. I have now found …

Hi all, i was driving on the motorway offduty a few weeks back and first noticed a vehicle in the inside lane that refused to let me onto the carridgeway from the slip road, despite there being no reason to stop him from changeing lanes with little traffic! I noticed him accelerate ahead of me, overtakeing into lane 2 and then cutting up a vehcile infront of mine to rejoin the inside lane causeing the vehicle behind to break as it appeared the driver had no concept of the length of his vehicle. It got my attention! The driver of this Merc Sprinter van then decided to continue this by doing the same undertakeing and cutting up of vehicles for a considerable distance. The v…
