as we all love a good scenario i thought of an interesting one while out walking about today: your walking past a busy inner city high school at lunch time when you see a group of teenagers (16 yrs old or so) laying into another 16yr old, odds of about 6-1, your unaware of whats been happening, whats caused it, how long its been going on for, whether weapons are involved or even if teachers are aware of the fight but needles to say a large crowd is starting to form so surely the teachers should realise pretty quickly something is happening, my question you is what would you do a) on duty b) off duty c) just a general member of the public Kennyg p.s. this hasnt happ…

I was just wondering, you're on a 999 call, and as you're driving down the road/around a bend, there is a funeral procession in front of you. If they're blocking the road (ie one way street), what would you do?

You are out on patrol when the control room allocates you to a job whereby a MoP has crashed their car in to a field. The MoP then calls the Police and informs that that they were driving, but have left the scene as they don't want to be breathlised. they also state that nobody else was in the car with them and nobody else was involved in the accident. We then attend the scene and nobody is present, there is extensive damage to the car and several road signs have been damaged, but nobody else affected as far as we can see. We then do a call on at the RO's address where somebody at the address informs us that the individual involved is at another address. We attend this …

As I was out down my local shop in my work van with a very posh LED beacon lol, A man shouted to me as I was coming out of the shop and asked if i would sell the beacon. I told the man it was not mine to sell. He then asked me to say it got stolen, I laughted and said no chance. What offence did he commit if any? And what would a current officer off duty had done?

Neighbour A has an issue with neighbour B playing loud music at silly hours. Neighbour A goes round and is threatened by B, this leads the police to be called. Police arrive at scene and speak with both parties. As per procedure both parties are checked with pnc for any outstanding warrants etc. It transpires that neighbour B has previous convictions which means he is a registerred sex offender BUT on this being passed via radio to the OIC is overheard by Neighbour A. The OIC realises ad tells neighbour A that they really shouldn't have heard that information. Now within this scenario very sensitive info has been leaked although accidentally. What if any offences are …

You follow a car into a car park to do a stop check. The car parks in a bay and you park next to it but leaving about 1.5 metres between the cars, as a result you are right against the line marking your bay. A known local drives into the car park, spots your car and reverse parks next to it, then moves forward and reverves again so as to park as close to the drivers side of your car as possible, but still remaining in his bay. He's parked so close you wouldn't be able to get into the drivers side. He then sits there giggling with his mates. Any offences?

Hi all, Got a real world scenario that's playing out at the moment and I'm really just asking to get my fears sorted out. Basically a mate of mine was killed on his motorcyle the weekend on the M4 (may have heard about it?) Anyway, it turns out that (from what news we're getting from his parents) the driver was 3 times the limit, it happened at 2am and she was later found to be hiding in a bush (well done the police chopper) Well now apparently she is denying being in the car at all and doesn't remember anything, whether or not the memory thing is true or not, it's making my blood boil and my missus is worrying that not a lot will be done if it can't be proven she was…

Bill has a car. The car has tax and an MOT but the insurance has run out. Bill wants to go to Wales 250 miles away but cant afford the insurance. Bill's Dad is a multimillionaire. Bill's Dad refuses to pay for Bill's Insurance but writes the following letter: To whom it may concern, I Bill's Dad of Billsville do agree to pay in full the amount of money incured to any person/vehicle owner/property owner if this vehicle and/or driver is involved in any form of collision. Bills Dad. Does this count as a vehicle insured or does it have to be from a MIB certified company.

after my last motoring related thread ive been reluctant to start another one in case the wrath of the mods fall on me again for asking awkward questions , but hey id like to know your interpretation of the law with regards to this scenario you stop a car for dangerous parts, in this case a floppy bumper, which has been damaged in a collision is badly split and hanging off on one corner, blowing up like a sail in the wind and looks like it may fall off in the near future, the driver is half way along a 80 mile journey, so you (arrange for a) PG9 to be issued to the car,, the car is safely parked in a lay by, and you leave him on his phone arranging pick up,, an hour l…

You're off duty, on your way to do something urgent (catch a flight, attend an important business meeting, something like that), when you come across a scenario that necessitates an arrest. I don't want to get bogged down in what that scenario is, but let's suppose you see someone get punched and manage to grab hold of the assailant. The victim wants to make a complaint, but the assailant is trying to leave - you know he needs to be arrested but you can't spend the next couple of hours in custody and the writing room. There are no other officers present at the time, but you're dialing 999. What are the options? I can think of these: 1) You let him go 2) You find so…

A package has been sent by a courier company to a customer. The customer claims not to have received the package. The courier company have a signature to say it was delivered. It later transpires that the courier company delivered it to a house in the wrong street, where the resident happens to have the same name as the originally intended customer. The person who took delivery refuses to return the package. So, my question, is this a criminal or civil matter. And if criminal, which legislation applies? Kris

Here's one that came up for me recently: Drunk male enters a shop at 9am (before the time the shop is licenced to serve alcohol) knowing he will not be sold the alcohol. He picks a £4.99 bottle of wine off the shelf and takes it to the till. The cashier tells him he is not being served, male proceeds to place £5 on the counter and then leaves the shop with the bottle of wine. For either Scotland or E&W (and NI if you want to play too) what offences have been committed (and what are the available penalties)?
