A man goes shopping in Tesco and puts £14 worth of goods in his basket. He goes to the self serve checkout where he scans his goods, bags them and inserts £20 into the machine. A £1 coin drops into the tray which he collects, and he continues to wait for his £5 note to appear at the bottom of the machine. The £5 does not appear and the assistance bell rings on the machine which the assistant notices and attends to. The screen on the self servcie till states "check note dispenser: £5 jammed" (or words to that effect) and looking at the customer's receipt and part change (the £1 coin), the assistant realises there is a £5 note still to be paid in change. After ope…

Im curious, pre-taser days if an AFO was getting a bit of a kicking from a MoP or there was a tussle etc would there be a point where the pistol would be drawn or would it be the case of strictly cs/baton unless the MoP had a knife/firearm?

Say a police officer (regular or special) lived in a neighbourhood with a problem of nuisance crime and anti-social behaviour. Could he wear his uniform and patrol his neighbourhood while off-duty, if he were so inclined? Or is this banned?

I flew over to the US this week (hence my posting times looking frankly antisocial), and whilst on the flight over I started wondering about what would happen if someone kicked off (eg trying to assault staff or other passengers) and you, as a constable, were on board the same flight. Would you offer your services to the cabin crew? Do you have any duty to do so? If so how far could you take it - can you merely help the crew calm down or restrain the person? By extension, if the offence is committed over international waters and the offender is calm for the rest of the flight, has any offence been committed (I presume so, just not sure what) and who is responsible for pr…

You out and about, when you see a little electric mobility scooter weaving it's way towards you in the middle of the road, causing mayhem behind it. You stop it and Old Doris is reeking of mother's ruin and seems somewhat confused. A motorist stops and tells you he was following her, and she's been weaving all over the place, shot straight across a junction causing several other vehicles to swerve. You talk to Doris who is very confused, hasn't got a clue where she is and is starting to get a bit emotional it's obvious to you she's been drinking. She gives you a card with a phone number and address on it, you phone the number and her daughter answers and tells you D…

After watching that Rogue Traders program about clamping, I thought about this..... You drive into a residents car park (you know the ones, next to flats etc...) quite innocently. There are no visible signs ( poorly placed and only one or two) that you can see explaining any restrictions and you leave your car to visit a friend in the flats. Upon your return there is a clamper waiting for you who explains that you can pay a release fee or the car will be recovered to their site. If you were unaware of the restrictions on parking could it be classed as theft of your vehicle if it was taken away? Could/would you make it known you are a Police Officer and you say the t…

A quick question for you guys. Your single crewed in uniform and have a fully marked up vehicle. You decided to check the local nature reserve where people smoke cannibis, on arrival you see a vehicle with 4 males in parked in the corner of the car park. You decide to have a word to check welfare etc. You approach the vehicle and when the driver opens the window the smell of cannibis smelt. So you decide to S23 MoD search on all the males and the vehicle. Prior to conducting the search would you shout up on the radio to advise control your location and what your doing for Officer Safety purposes? Would this been seen as over sensitive to the implications of a pear shap…

Here is the situation. A couple with a child attempts to park in a car park in a supermarket child parking space. As the attempt to pull in a man with no child gets in first(no laws regaurding these spaces) The couple ask the man to leave as he has no child. man becomes abussive and tells couple to go make more babies(see no swear words). Couple tell man his tyres will be let down, man huffs and walks away. The couple let his tyres down by causing no dmage. What laws are broken? Is it classed as damage as the tyre hasnt suffered any physical dmage? (heard this on the radio)

Hi guys, Ok this has happened to a friend of mine in his street quite recently, it's a strange one, but I thought that if I attended this complaint made by a member of public that lived in the street. Imagine that there is a team of workmen that are resurfacing a residential street, and they have put all the appropriate signs up to notify people in the area that the road will be closed for a few days. The council have also sent letters out to all the residents on this street, to move their cars onto their drives or in other appropriate places because the road needs to be cleared of any obstructions to allow the entire road to be repaired. Anyhow, on the day that the w…

Interesting situation that some relatives of mine have found themselves in, this is the situation as it was outlined to me: It's 1973. A man buys a ten year old "future-classic" car which is a non-runner for a couple of hundred pounds (still quite a bit in those days). He garages it with the intention of restoring it when he has more money and time. In 1975 the man dies. The car is still in the garage and has had no work done to it. His wife doesn't know what to do with the car and asks the man's cousin to help her out. The man's cousin runs a shipping company and so puts the car in the corner of his warehouse. In 2000 the car is still sitting in the warehouse and the …

Hypothetical Neighbour Problem arising out of scenario conversation: Neighbour "1" family consists of a mother, step father and son, son is 30+ years old, possibly has " Schizoaffective disorder" or another condition such as an "autism spectrum disorder". The person is also on an unknown medication. He is a big strong man, and bangs things like doors, walls, windows in a repetitive manner all hours of the day and night. Neighbour "2" is worried about confrontation as the whole extended family lives on the street. The only approachable person, the step father has been spoken to, however doesn't know what to do either as the very large son doesn't listen to him either.…

I imagined a scenario in a dream last night, i'm sure it stems from the Traffic/Motorway Cops Ep when the lorry crushes the car at the back of a stationary line of traffic on a motorway. Anyway, to cut to the point. I'll explain it as best i can. A car is driving down a 2 lane Dual Carriageway, in the left lane. Ahead is a queue of traffic, and as in the episode, the driver doesn't see it. In the right hand lane is a van, bigger/more powerful than the car in terms of weight. The van driver notices the car isn't slowing for the traffic, and sees that the car will inevitably end up smashing into the back at high speed. Now this is the weird bit. From playing video gam…

I had this happen to me two weeks ago, but my friend had it happen today. Basically she was at uni and returned to a driver side with no wing mirror, now she thinks a car has hit it and driven off which would technically be making off from an RTC as damage to another vehichle was caused and no attempt (you would think) to report it to the police within 24 hours or asap has been made. It happened in Roehampton, now would the MET be interested in this as there may be CCTV around the area to see the incriminating vehicle making off, if so they could be summoned? Should she call the 0300 123 1212 and then what would happen?
