I recently found this site and decided to join today. I am considering a complete career change and hope to join the CNC if I do make the change. I am already working on my fitness and have requested an application pack. I have studied every piece of information I could find on the CNC, but I will be looking through the information here for some tips and advice (fitness test, the initial 14 weeks, shift work etc). I'm also already looking ahead and will be looking into what it takes to pass the sergeant exam and if or how that affects the options to specialise after the 2 year probation period. I'm starting to think I've found my calling, but at 31 it certainly took long …

Hi All, I am an ex wpc, and my hubby has three years to go. I have read somewhere that we can contribute up to 50% of his salary into AVC's before tax. This would seem to represent a huge saving, of 40% as it would be taken before tax was deducted. The scheeme run by Standard Life, has lower running cost than normal for police, of 0.6% and has risk ranging from 1-7 dependant on what you choose. I have not yet recieved the pack from St/Life. Could anyone advise me of any alternative? or do you think this is a good way to go if we can afford it? Thank youx

Hi everyone, Just thought I'd say hi. Started with GMP in August 2008 and have 2.5 weeks before I start my tutorship. I'm a bit nervous but really really looking forward to putting everything I've learned so far into practise and learning more. Never worked shifts before so that's a bit of a worry, but I'm sure I'll manage it ok.

Good morning to you all, I have just recently applied to Northamptonshire Police, so am awaiting the results of the papersift - I currently work as a civillian staff member for the same force... I applied once before to a different force - passed the papersift but then had to withdraw due to becoming pregnant. My daughter is now 3.5, and will start school full time in September, so if I pass the timing would fit in very well. Fingers crossed. EllsBells

Hello All, Just wanted to introduce myself on the forum, I had my assessment centre for Cleveland Police on 4th Oct '08 and managed to pass somehow?! As you can see by my join date (3rd Oct) I stumbled across this site a little late, but still managed to read a few good tips and experiences, and I've been checking back regularly. Just waiting to get a date through for the medical / fitness, so would be good to hear if anyone is in the same boat. Apologies for leaving it so long to introduce myself, better late than never I suppose!

hi, Im looking for some help, Im re-applying to Strathclyde and after speaking with a very healpful PC at Jackton she advised I get my fitness to a level I know I will be able to pas the running, 1.5 miles in 16mins, Im female and have just turned 45, as I have passed the entrance exam 7 years ago I dont need to resit that, and she said I could hear really quickly when I put in my application form. How soon do you think it will take for me to reach a level of fitness to pass this test. I have been doing low impact aerobics about 3 times a week for about 4 weeks, but Ive yet to attempt a run.

Hi ladies and gentleman nice to me you all. Im looking to join the police and am living in Essex. I understand that there was a recruitment drive in september for Essex Police but that has since finished . I decided that i should apply for the met because they are currently recruiting but to get an application pack you have to attend an event. That event is today i planned to go up and chat to some officers etc but due to endless railway engineering works/chinese new year and imminent snow on the road ive decided its going to be a bad idea and stayed at home. Im now worried that im not going to be able to apply and miss out again Im going to try ringing their recr…

Hi all, I'm a newbie, but I want to join South Yorkshire's police service as soon as I can... They're not accepting new admissions at the moment, but do you know when they will be? I'd appreciate knowing, I've pretty much decided I want to be 'one of you' hehe Thanks for your time, Dave
