I recently finished mine, and may I say it is an experience. Not all written here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJusticeAndTheLaw/Juryservice/DG_197055 is correct, for a start if you go by Taxi to Court you will not get paid your fair. They got this bit right £5.71 per day for food drink. Why that figure who knows, inflation starting from £2.00 may be a reason. First day you will be asked to be in at 9,am where you will sit around waiting to be called for first case, Only to find out you have to sit through a video before anything further happens. If you do homework first, like I did, the video is superfluous. Then a three hour wait till you might get called, if…

This will undoubtedly be headline news tomorrow; this is a recipe for disaster and will end in severe violence. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18802232 Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson has appealed for calm over 12 July Orange parades. Police have said they will "robustly uphold" a Parades Commission decision banning Orangemen from walking past shops in a nationalist area of north Belfast after 16:00 BST on Thursday. Orangemen argue they do not have enough time to make it back to the area for the deadline. They have described the ruling as a "recipe for disaster". Mr Robinson said: "Whilst many within the community strongly disagree with…

Awesome. They've got a legion of 'free' volunteers too. There's a surprise though - a private contractor not stepping up to the mark and having to be bailed out by the forces or public sector employees. You'd like to think that they'll have to pay a large penalty for missing their contractual agreements.......

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/9386956/Cash-strapped-police-force-criticised-for-customer-journey-workshops.html In this time of austerity, I am surprised that West Mids can waste money in this way. Of course ACPO will never admit that they are wasting money, it's always for a good cause.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-18768058 Looks like we are doing better with in custody deaths, depending on the statistics they are using. "Deborah Coles, co-director of Inquest, a charity which advises on contentious deaths and their investigation, said the figures revealed a "disturbing number" of people who were clearly vulnerable or in distress were taken into police custody rather than to a hospital or mental health unit." - Are the IPCC or this charity under the impression that we want / have a choice as to where we put anyone? Where can we put the most vulnerable people, the violent, suicidal, mental health patient who is kicking off. In a hospital? Not …

So, Abu Qatada is about to be deported and his lawyers make an appeal to the ECHR. His lawyers claimed the time limit had not elapsed and this government say it has. This government now seems intent on creating a smoke screen. Why? Could they have misunderstood the time limit and now feel embarrassed? In this BBC news report it seems that it all hinges on the definition of "midnight". Who would have thought that all these lawyers in government could not see a possible ambiguity with the definition of "midnight"?
