Police officers' concern at East of England ambulance delaysThe ambulance service said it was working closely with police forces in the region Police say they are repeatedly stepping in to take people to hospital when ambulances fail to arrive. The Police Federation say delayed ambulances have become a concern in the East of England. Officers claim delays or a lack of availability of ambulances have left them having to take people to hospital themselves. The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) said it was working to improve its response times. Although some members of the Essex Police Federation say officers were taking patients to hospital on a "daily basis", the s…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21178847 Oh dear, time to cancel VC day. I thought we had it. It could be to do with the closing and reduced hours for police stations, the long waits on hold to get in touch over the phone, the common knowledge that there are few of us left to do anything about it. Could it be the destruction of special units, looking deep into the criminal world and discovering many crimes and stopping them has caused a drop in reports. I have had my car keyed a couple of times recently, not badly, just a bit. Technically thats a crime. But its unclear why i would waste the 30 minutes or more to report it. Im not claiming on insurance so its a bit point…

ACPO and Superintendents' AssociationThe government is making major changes to the police service looking at pay, conditions, roles, the private sector and the election of dozens of Police and Crime Commissioners to office. Some say officers form part of the last great unreformed public service, but off-duty officers have already marched through the streets to show their opposition. Giles Dilnot spoke to ACPO president Sir Hugh Orde, Irene Curtis of the Police Superintendents' Association, and Tony McNulty, a former Labour policing minister. Video on the web site! Tell us something we dont know, for me this line here says it all: "ONS statistician John Flatley said the bigger falls in police-recorded crimes may be due to pressures to meet targets on crime reduction and detections." I think this is something we've all encountered at one time or another...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/9815917/Foreign-police-chiefs-Send-for-Sheriff-Joe-Arpaio-from-Phoenix-Arizona.html Interesting article, that makes some interesting points. Not sure I agree with it all, but interesting speculation. Question, has direct entry as Insp. for some graduates been confirmed? Or is that still just a plan?

Has anybody, ever, seen an MP give a straight answer to a direct question? What I want to see is an interviewer asking a question until it's answered properly. Have a whole show, if that's what it takes, asking the same question until it's answered properly. There is little point in asking question after question and not getting an answer on any of them. Watching the Daily Politics show on BBC2 just now was utterly depressing.

A police sergeant was seriously injured while chasing two suspected burglars onto a roof close to London's busiest shopping district, Scotland Yard has said. The officer was struck on the head with a heavy tool while responding to reports of a burglary at an office in Margaret Street, near Oxford Street, in central London, at around 11am on Saturday. He and a colleague had begun separate searches of the office when he disturbed two men and chased them on to the roof. He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, but has since been released. A 32-year-old suspect was seriously injured when he fell from the roof while trying to escape. He was arrested an…
