An F.O.I request to the Home Office has resulted in the below information. In the last THREE years the number of Police Officers has dropped by 7%. thats 9450 less than three years ago, The number of officers under the age of 26 has dropped by 48%. The Home Office says it is worried that there are not enough younger officers who will be able to communicate with young persons. I wasn't sure that you had to be any particular age to be able to communicate with any aged person.

I've noted with interest that this hasn't been posted sooner, being directly affected by it myself and facing possible redundancy I cannot say too much. I am wondering what your opinions are as members of the public and police officers? Where do people think the 'spare' places have come from? It's strange that 18 months ago prisons were bursting at the seams and now they're apparently empty, if I were a cynic I'd say that 7000 criminals that belong in prison were wandering our streets. I, along with my colleagues found out about this from the BBC news site before being told by our employer.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/100000-assaults-1000-rapists-sentenced-shockingly-low-conviction-rates-revealed-8446058.html Fewer than one rape victim in 30 can expect to see her or his attacker brought to justice, shocking new statistics reveal. The reason i have posted this is not so i can talk about why the figures are so high, though there are plenty of reasons which have not been mentioned. The thing the report seem to be completely blind to is what is happening to the police at the moment. We are losing staff everywhere, every department is being slashed, cut, reduced, moved and destroyed utterly. Yet the media keep reporting about police failure, n…

Residents in Cornwall are being urged to be on their guard for a bogus caller preying on elderly people in a calculated bank card fraud. Two women, aged 95 and 82, were targeted on 9 January by an offender who claimed to be issuing new debit cards from the bank. Both were telephoned to say their new cards would be delivered later. They were then visited at their homes by a man with new fake cards and were asked to hand over their current genuine ones. The 95-year-old woman was visited at her Bodmin home around 2pm and she agreed to swap her bank card. She later discovered that around £2,000 had been withdrawn from her bank account. The 82-year-old woman from Truro was…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20998800 The number of young police officers in England and Wales has fallen by nearly 50% in two years. There were 9,088 officers aged under 26 in 2009-10 but only 4,758 in 2011-12, figures obtained by the BBC show. In Cleveland, North Wales and Staffordshire the fall in the number of officers aged under 26 was more than 70% over the period. Overall police numbers hit a nine-year low in 2012, due to tighter budget constraints slowing recruitment. But this data, obtained in a Freedom of Information request by BBC Radio 4's The World This Weekend, shows how much of that fall has been among younger officers. Cleveland reported a 74% drop i…

With the current flag protests and the forthcoming G8 summit in Northern Ireland, who on here would be willing to volunteer to go across and provide mutual aid to the PSNI? My suggestion is to ask all officers who have transferred to mainland forces from the RUC or PSNI if they'd be willing to go back and provide mutual aid for these periods or at least provide station backfill. At least then you would have officers who have a basic knowledge of the force, as well as the 'lie of the land' shall we say? As a transferree, I would be more than willing to nip over and assist my former colleagues. Thoughts everyone?
