A former London mayoral candidate has called for the Metropolitan Police's riot squad to be disbanded because of young people's mistrust of it.Green Party Assembly Member Jenny Jones said the Territorial Support Group (TSG) acts like a "paramilitary body". Ms Jones, deputy chair of the police and crime committee, suggests the money saved by scrapping the TSG should be spent on better police riot training. The unit's commander said it was working to engage young people. Chief Supt Mark Bird said Ms Jones's recommendation to the mayor would leave London without a round-the-clock response to critical incidents such as murders. In Ms Jones' report, The Kids are All Right:…

Drunk police doctor Christopher Partington in car chase A drunken police doctor who was arrested after two crashes and a police pursuit has been given a suspended jail sentence. The English Defence League leader has been jailed for using someone else's passport to get into the United States. Stephen Lennon, 30, pleaded guilty to possession of a false identity document with improper intention, contrary to the Identity Documents Act 2010, at Southwark Crown Court. Lennon used a passport in the name of Andrew McMaster to board a Virgin Atlantic Flight from Heathrow to New York, but was caught out after his fingerprints were taken by customs officials. He left the airport and entered the US illegally but left the country the following day, using his own passport to return to the UK. http://news.sky.com/story/1034468/edl-leader-stephen-lennon-j…

Your Daily Mail anti-police story; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2254716/Scandal-23-000-police-jobs-Officers-face-new-curbs-moonlighting-figure-soars-nearly-20-year.html I agree, it must be a scandal that the number of police officers being forced to take up second jobs to pay their mortgages and feed their families has risen by 20% in a year and the HASC should look into this.

Just seen this cracker in the daily mail. It now appears that not only are we expected to take a massive pay cut, we are also to be persecuted for daring to try and make up the shortfall. Reading the readers comments I am heartened to see that most people can see right through HMGs and the daily mails latest ploy. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2254716/Scandal-23-000-police-jobs-Officers-face-new-curbs-moonlighting-figure-soars-nearly-20-year.html

Police spend 8 minutes on front-line duties out of every working hour Bogged down ... bobbies on the beat POLICE spend just EIGHT MINUTES in every hour on frontline duties — despite a Government pledge to cut paperwork. New research shows they are out on patrol for only 11.8 per cent of their working day. Which means that on a typical 12-hour shift, an officer will spend just one hour and 25 minutes “visible and available” to the public. The rest of their day will involve form-filling, book-keeping and other backroom work. So much time is “lost” on other chores, it effectively costs taxpayers £800,000 to keep a single beat manned for a year. The figures — revealed…

Well. I'm not sure that sex equality campaigners really wanted this to happen, but there you go. You have to be careful what you wish for. Women will now pay more for their car insurance, and oddly, their pensions might be decreased too. Does seem to fly in the face of common sense, facts, crash statistics and actuarial tables, but again, there you go. On the bright side, my insurance might come down. Every cloud.......
