'Insulting' words crime which made it illegal to call a police horse 'gay' is to be changed`A law which has been used to try to convict a student who said “woof” to a police dog, or called a police horse ”gay” is to be changed. Theresa May said the Government will accept a House of Lords amendment Photo: Geoff Pugh for the Telegraph Home secretary Theresa May said the Government will accept a House of Lords amendment to remove the word 'insulting’ from Section 5 of the Public Order Act. The amendment had been promoted in the House of Lords by Lord Dear, a former HM Inspector of Constabulary. Six years ago police tried to prosecute Oxford student Sam Brown after …

Link Police Federation of Northern Ireland (PFNI) is calling for the PSNI to recruit up to 1000 new Police officers in order to combat terrorism. I should note that the PFNI should be taken more seriously than England/Wales fed's when they call for things. They have a lot of sway with PSNI top brass and have the ear of both the NI Assembly (close links with unionist politicians) and central government. No doubt they'll be looking to recruit some transferees, avoid Winsor (for now), plenty of OT. Why not give it a try?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2262470/Only-half-police-report-colleague-beating-suspect-tried-escape.html--- The comments from Slippery Vaz are rather rich, especially with all the expences he fiddled and had to pay back, plus his very dodgy business dealings. Pity MP's don't have the same integrity as MOST police officers. There always will be, and always have been officers who 'didn't see anything Gov', when colleagues do wrong, or don't report things that perhaps they should. I know a few officers who reported others for wrong doings, and at the end of the day have been shunned as a 'sneak' or trouble maker, and that often makes officers reluctant …

I always thought that an HMI also sat on the interview panel. So basically there was only one person there who knew anything about policing and that was a retired Chief Superintendent. http://www.avonandso...nfirmation.aspx

I am a journalist at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism and I am doing some research into how budget cuts are affecting the day to day working of the justice system. I've spoken to a few recently-retired police officers who have shared their stories of police forces battling to keep up their good work in the face of crippling cuts to overtime, staff and equipment. But I would really like to hear your views. The news is full of figures and statistics but I am not sure people understand just how the cuts are making policing more difficult. If you would like to share your experiences on this forum then please do (as broad or as specific as you like), or if you'd rather…

Unable to quote the news article (saw it in the BBC News app), but the Government have agreed to remove the word 'insulting' from the 'threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour' for a s.5 offence. Thoughts? Can't see it making much difference personally... I'll continue suppressing free speech as usual.

This Smug Bitch says that the police reforms are working, crime is falling, and public confidence is high. Wait until we have the next lot of riots and the police cannot cope because of the shortfall of 16000 officers, public confidence won't be so high then. Still, we won't have to put up with her in two years because they will be voted out.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police confirmed they were called to a report of a man causing a disturbance near Nationwide building society at around 2pm. On making an arrest, one officer was believed to have been injured. A cordon is up and includes Bosc Vegas convenience store, Nationwide and Carphone Warehouse http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/localnews/10168824.Police_officer_attacked_in_Boscombe/ Hope the officer will be ok

One thing the media seem to be missing about the reductions in Police starting pay is that the figure quoted includes shift allowance. This is unlike our other public sector workers wages which are often quoted before any shift allowance is paid; teachers being a prime example. Full 24 hour rotating shift allowance is normally about 20%. Therefore the correct starting salary for a new recruit is £15,200 per year plus shift allowance. Now I've tried to find a job on the internet, using the Winsonian Comparator method, and simply can not find any real jobs that pay a salary of £15,200, probably because at that pay most people are paid hourly. So, I've worked out the hour…

An interesting defence to ignoring a notice, that you don't know what the word Constabulary means!

The Sussex police and crime commissioner has been criticised for failing to come up with a plan to put a special constable in every village. The promise was a key pledge in Katy Bourne's election manifesto, but a draft plan for 2013/2014 does not say how it will be achieved. Lib Dem councillor Andrew Smith said the plan suffered from lack of detail. But Tory Ms Bourne said she planned to increase the number of specials over her full term of office. Ms Bourne, who was elected in November, put her first police and crime plan before local councillors on Friday. "It is a very aspirational document but I can't see any measurable outcome," said Mr Smith. "It was a clear m…
