Federation lead's request gets approval of chief constable as beanie hats are introduced to help stave off the cold.As the country braces for more snow and ice, officers at Thames Valley Police can now order a uniform-issue woolly hat to keep them warm. The new black knitted beanie has “Police” embroidered across the front and is intended to keep officers warm when they have to stand still for long periods of time outdoors, said PC Lisa Stanhope, Health and Safety lead for the Federation. Scottish Government officials said there were no plans to allow the technology to be used in evidence in courtrooms and they were only looking at experiments in England in the context of managing…

http://blog.old-and-bold.info/?p=15747 - It appears we are(NOT) all in it together, not long ago Hugh Orde told us we were ''all in it together'', then promptly took a £27,000 pay rise, now it looks as if Chief Constables are joining us ''all in it together'', possibly getting an £18,000 pay rise. If any do take the money they are just being very very greedy, especially when new recruits are taking a drop of £4,000.

A few years ago my brother was interested in joining the service. He told me that he contacted his local station and they arranged for him to go out, as a civilian in the back of a police car to experience half a shift. Do they still do this? As it would be a great insight into the job!
