Unemployed thug ordered to pay compensation to woman PC... and even Police Federation 'astonished' by size of award A female police officer has been awarded £1,000 compensation from a criminal who spat at her when she was trying to restrain him. PC Sarah Botham feared she could have caught hepatitis from the spittle of unemployed father of two Lee Birtles, but tests later proved negative. Her compensation award is the maximum allowed by law - and even the local Police Federation described the penalty as 'quite astonishing'. - I hope the day never comes when the Home Office pick a foreign cop to lead the Met, having said that, he couldn't be much worse than BHH, who is quickly becoming like Ian Blair, a disaster. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9820566/US-supercop-wants-to-lead-the-Met-Police.html

I don't think people consider othe…

Met faces landmark ruling for 'unlawful' mass roll-out of Tasers in police cars28 January 2013 Scotland Yard is facing a High Court action over a decision to put Taser stun guns in all response cars in London. The Met Commissioner is accused of acting unlawfully by approving the mass deployment of the weapon without public consultation. Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and the Mayor’s Office for Policing face the legal challenge amid growing concern among politicians and rights campaigners about the safety of Tasers, which send out a 50,000-volt shock and can temporarily disable suspects. Sir Bernard announced the roll out after four unarmed police officers were seriously injur…

My immediate thoughts are it will fail because it's length of service rather than age, and although generally that means they will all be at least 48 years of age and around the same age, they could probably be anywhere from 48-60 theoretically.
