Officers as young as 30 could become chief constables under Government plans to overhaul police recruitment.Foreign chief constables could be brought in to lead forces and a fast-track scheme for business leaders and former Army officers could halve the time taken to reach the top job from the current 20 to 25 years. The move could see officers leading police forces in their 30s, instead of in their 40s. Theresa May, the Home Secretary, will also unveil plans to change the law to enable candidates such as Bill Bratton, the former head of the New York Police, to fight crime in the UK. Police leaders warned the move could see the UK’s counter-terrorism efforts being led …

Officers have been left feeling like the government “does not like the Police Service”, the new President of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales has said.Officers have been left feeling like the government “does not like the Police Service”, the new President of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales has said. Ch Supt Irene Curtis, elected as president on January 24, said reforms to the service have left officers feeling “particularly under-valued, particularly not listened to and, to an extent, that this government does not like the Police Service”. Ch Supt Curtis added that it is “irrelevant” whether or not the government…

According to BBC News figures; as expected police numbers have dropped to the lowest level since 2002. Damien GREEN predictably re-iterated his mantra about the police playing their part in reducing the country's deficit whilst singing the praises of reduced crime figures against this back drop. Just one question - Will we see wealthy MP's, bankers and their ilk 'playing their part' for the mess they got us into?

A man has been found guilty of supplying a gun to Mark Duggan, whose fatal shooting by police soon after sparked London riots.A man has been found guilty of supplying a gun to Mark Duggan, whose fatal shooting by police soon after sparked London riots. Kevin Hutchinson-Foster was convicted at the Old Bailey of passing the gun to Mr Duggan after a retrial. The court heard Mr Duggan collected the BBM Bruni Model 92 handgun just 15 minutes before he was shot dead on August 4, 2011. The 29-year-old's death in Tottenham, north London, sparked riots that swept across London and other English towns and cities. A jury previously failed to reach a verdict over Hutchinson-Foste…

Forces can now consider whether to bring in a voluntary exit scheme for officers after the Home Office made changes to police pensions. Officers could soon be given the option to leave the Service early after the Home Office approved changes to police pensions - allowing forces to introduce a voluntary severance scheme for the first time. In exchange for agreeing to the exit, officers below their “pension age” would receive a compensation payment of one month’s salary for every year of service – up to a maximum of 21 months. The “pension age” refers to the age at which officers would have been eligible to receive their pension, had they stayed in the Service. Officers …

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-21208674 A fellow walks into Ladbrokes, apparently wearing a gas mask and carrying a gun. The customers pounce, hold him down and he subsequently dies. There was a solicitor on Radio 4 earlier who said that they'd all acted in self-defence and had done nothing wrong......which is interesting..............surely that's gotta be a bit premature??

This may be best suited to those who have RECENTLY transferred to the PSNI. I am in the process of applying to transfer to the PSNI from my mainland force. I appreciate that there is a 9 week conversion course and that much of this is based on the use of your firearm + any additional tactical and long arm training as may be needed. My question is can you fail? have you seen people fail?? What happens if they do?? I could end up doing 9 weeks in the PSNI cocking up a safety drill etc and then being booted out with PROBABLY no chance to go back!! Bit of a concern!! Im not a TOTAL k**b BUT I have no experience of firearms and have not been in the military so I might s…

Costs £32billion........ It'll take 13 years to be implemented. All to shave off an hour on the journey from Birmingham to Leeds. Hmmm. And roughly 30 minutes off the journey time from Birmingham to London. That's going to help business is it? To move thousands of commuters from one area to another? Are there that many people who want to travel between those destinations and is an extra few minutes holding back business?

The number of young police officers in England and Wales has fallen by nearly 50% in two years. There were 9,088 officers aged under 26 in 2009-10 but only 4,758 in 2011-12, figures obtained by the BBC show. In Cleveland, North Wales and Staffordshire the fall in the number of officers aged under 26 was more than 70% over the period. Overall police numbers hit a nine-year low in 2012, due to tighter budget constraints slowing recruitment. But this data, obtained in a Freedom of Information request by BBC Radio 4's The World This Weekend, shows how much of that fall has been among younger officers. Cleveland reported a 74% drop in young officers - the highest figure amo…
