MPs say watchdog should change interview status of officers in cases of death or serious injury. Police officers involved in the most serious incidents under IPCC investigation should routinely be interviewed under caution, MPs have said in a report on the watchdog’s effectiveness. The Home Affairs Select Committee said not interviewing officers under caution in cases involving death or serious injury was “indicative of a culture of treating officers differently to other people”. At the moment, the watchdog’s investigators can interview officers under caution but only if they specifically suspect misconduct or criminality on the part of officers. “Where officers are …

Officer apparently arrested and bailed over disclosure to the press regarding MITCHELL/Pleb gate. What offence would that be then? Oh misconduct in a public office. You know that offence that only applies to police officers. Not others in public office, like lets say members of parliament for example. How much more of this BS are we prepared to take individually or as a group?

Undercover offic…

Senior police leaders must take steps to ensure that there is adequate close supervision for officers joining the Met with the numbers of sergeants set to plunge. There are fears that constables coming into the service in the future will find themselves distanced from the knowledge and experience of their supervisors – all in an environment where more is ultimately being asked of them. Policing academics have also voiced concern that skippers in the Met are a lynchpin in ensuring that high standards are maintained – and they are respected at all levels. “It…

Details of the weekend attack were revealed during an unrelated bail application at Belfast High Court A policeman was knocked unconscious during a union flag protest in east Belfast at the weekend, the High Court has been told. The officer sustained a serious head injury when he was hit with a missile on Saturday afternoon. Details of the attack were revealed during a bail hearing on Monday that was unrelated to the weekend trouble. Prosecutors disclosed the details in response to defence claims of reduced violence linked to the flag protests. I want to make it clear that while the present violence continues to disfigure the streets, people who have been caught up…
